Once filled with sweets of all kind, the 'Sugar Shop' at 254 Baltic Street in Cobble Hill has closed its doors recently. Opened in the spring of 2012, the store offered wonderful old-fashioned and artisanal candy displayed in glass jars as well as a candy bar with a huge selection that made many of us nostalgic.
Many kids birthday parties were hosted in the shop's side room and it was a sweet temptation for many with a sweet tooth.
The shelves of this candy wonderland are now empty and it is sad to walk by. No doubt, it brought much joy to the children in the neighborhood.

I really liked this place, perhaps much more than I should have.
However, in recent years several other places that offer the sweet temptation of empty calories have opened, including on Court Street and Montague Street, and likely the rent didn't justify keeping the store open any longer.
As long as Court Pastry Shop remains with us, I'll continue to come down to this area for things that taste good, even if they're bad for me.
Aww, I had my son's birthday party here when they first opened and it was great. Sad to see another small shop closed around here.
This is going to be a very brutal news to tell my son....;)
But a great one for my behind!
