It is hard to remember on this rainy beginning of the week that this past Saturday truly felt like spring had finally arrived. Under a blue sky and brilliant sun,  members of Friends of Carroll Park were joined by 60+ volunteers from St. Francis College and the Gowanus Conservancy to spruce up our neighborhoods wonderful green oasis.
With so many people lending a helping hand, every section of the park got some much needed attention. Volunteers were busy scraping sections of the fence along Carroll Street, sanding and painting benches, removing  litter, and weeding.  Plants were divided and replanted, several bushes relocated and at the end, planting areas were mulched with wood chips.
With the clean-up and the daffodils also having fully opened on that beautiful sunny day, Carroll Park looked lovelier than ever.

A big THANK YOU to all who donated of their time to participate.  I am sure the community will join me in expressing our appreciation.

That section of fence the guys are working on{across from the school}...I painted that section on the very first Earth Day in Carroll Gardens..1970. I accidently painted over a fly and not a day goes by when I don't think of that little guy.

That's quite a story, Joey.

I think that story is my favorite thing I've ever read on this blog.
