There was also a nasty lateral crack along one of the tiled walls, adjacent to Gowanus Yacht Club's outdoor space, which got progressively worse in the past few days. The situation seems to have been caused by a tree that grew right next to the entrance.
Quite a few of you reached out to M.T.A. and to our elected officials to report the situation.
We are happy to report that the problem is currently being addressed by a large crew from the agency.

Good call everyone. I reported to a cop and 311. But in 311 I had to complain about a bus shelter and say it was the subway. Did they cut the tree down. Too bad.
Its even worse than your photos show. I walked by this morning. Workers removed the ironwork and the signs from the entrance and the entire top sill of the entrance is crumbling.
Thanks for pointing this out. This could have been a disaster.
