Oh, No! Copy Cottage On Smith Street To Close Next Month

It was with great sadness that PMFA learned last week that Copy Cottage at 249 Smith Street will be closing its doors permanently on November 2.
For thirteen years, this small locally-owned business accepted and shipped packages, sold postage stamps, sent and received faxes, and covers all printing needs. In addition, it sold packing and moving materials, offered mail boxes, and had a notary public on staff. Best of all, the store accepted pre-paid return packages for a nominal fee.
Unfortunately, business has been slow of late, as people have used the UPS and USPS web sites to print out and pay for their own shipping labels, using Copy Cottage simply as a drop off site.

We will be very sad to see them go and don't relish the idea of having to use the Red Hook post office.  Will you miss this small neighborhood store?

This is tragic. For those of us in the neighborhood working full time and without a doorman having a place for packages to get delivered to was an incredible convenience. Add in the loss of a long time neighborhood small business and the West Villagification of the neighborhood continues unchecked.

A sincere thanks to all the folks who have worked there over the years. Always kind and helpful.

Oh no is right! I used them for shipping packages, or drop offs, buy stamps, packing materials, etc.
I don’t have a car so Red Hook post office is out, besides they’re terrible. Looks like I’ll have to walk to Cadman Plaza post office.
Too bad there wasn’t another way to revamp their services so they can stay in business. It’s really sad to lose such a convenient place. Their service is great.

This is terrible news. I love these guys. So pleasant and convenient. When I had my small business, I couldn't have done it w/o Copy Cottage. They were my lifeline for color copies and shipping and a friendly face during the day. I will miss them so much.

This is sad. I used the a handful of times to send out packages. It was a lot more convenient than waiting in line at the post office.

Well. The shipping and return labels are not the entire reasons. This has been a very convenient shop for me. Who wants to run all the way to staples for a Xerox? Jessica and Nick and Melissa and Jorge. I will miss you. Always have helped me. I’ll stop by before you go. XO

I'll miss Copy Cottage terribly, not only for their convenient and helpful services but for Melissa and her always pleasant and helpful staff.

Darn it! Not another one. :(

Please help keep Cobble Hill Variety Mailing open! (Henry at Degraw) It's a family business, and they are very nice and always helpful. They have printers, copiers, mailing needs, passport photos and a selection of office, school and electronic supplies that are becoming harder and harder to find at stores in the neighborhood.

This is terrible. I am allergic to the post office and this little place has made my life easier on so many occasions. I will miss it, and will never be able to send out a package again without it.

Gosh, I use to go there all the time when I lived in CG. They were a little more $ but local people. We should always make it a priority to shop local.

Very sorry to hear this news. I used their services a lot for printing documents, faxing etc. Another loss for the neighborhood.

UPDATE I was in CC today and the person I spoke with who works there told me that CC will NOT be closing - the new owner of the building will keep the business there. Good news for the nabe!

Hey everyone- Copy Cottage was sold to the owners of the Cobble Hill Variety Store. It will continue to function as a business center. I am having a Bon Voyage get together at Copy Cottage to say goodbye on Friday from 4-6pm. Hope to see you there.

Great to hear, Melissa! Omar and the Cobble Hill Variety crew are great, and shipping services would be seriously lacking in the neighborhood without you.
