During the summer, quite a few stores and eateries have closed here in Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill, but some new ones have popped up as well. East Wind Snack Shop, which opened at 253 Smith Street (near Douglass Street) this past June, seems to be a great addition to the area.
The menu features a great selection of Chinese dumplings (pork, dry aged beef, vegetable and shrimp), a pork belly Boa bun, and a selection of rice dishes and stir fried noodles
The small eatery is the second location by this name for its chef and owner Chris Cheung. The first one opened in Windsor Terrace in 2015.

From the web site:As food is the cheapest way to travel the world, it’s also a cool way to go back in time. This shop was inspired by the old Chinatown tea houses and we love it when food brings people back to their fondest memories. For us, the only way to accomplish this is to make the food in the best way possible, from scratch everyday with really good responsibly sourced ingredients. We handcraft the best dumplings and bao and slowly cook all our meats for tender goodness. We’re a small mom and pop shop dedicated to sharing our culture. We call it “Damn Good Chinese Food!”

Have you tried this place yet? What are your favorite dishes? Dumplings?

Thanks for the edit. That makes more sense.

i've ate here before. Although the food is somewhat good, it's very expensive with tiny portions. Haters will disagree

I’m not a hater and agree seeing how Chinatown in sunset park and manhattan serve similar fare. The renovation of the shop is nice and sanitary. They have no stoves. They cook on large hot plates. I suppose seeing how there isn’t much foot traffic on Smith it’s not really a classic dim sum spot per se. it’s pre made and cooked when ordered. Sort of a sanitized version of what’s found elsewhere. I tried them but wasn’t that impressed. They probably buy their shrimp at Jetro. I could tell the ingredients and spices were fresh and perhaps no MSG. It’s an airier place to hang out than Oh Dumpling up on Bergen St. but cost wise Oh is better and in my opinion has a more classic taste. MSG maybe? East Wind seemed like the new wave but where was the food being made? Offsite? Still they seem like nice group of people. Too much wasteful take out packaging though. In any event it’s a nice option but I’ll stick with Chinatown. Also they don’t steam anything. It’s all pan fried. So it’s crispy bottoms which is also tasty.

Yes, some stores and eateries have closed this summer, as always. But a lot more have opened, and more than a dozen new projects are in the works on Smith/Court. If you count current vacancies it's less than half the number at this time last year (I know only because I've been looking for a space for some time). Smith retail rents have declined by >40% in the last 3 years, and it has stimulated a lot of new interest. Tide has changed.

40%! That’s steep. Was wondering if that was the case.
