"Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future?" Jacqueline Kennedy

Compass Listing for storefront at 131 Smith Street

For a few years, a hat and accessories store called Bejeweled occupied the retail space at 131 Smith Street near Dean Street in Boerum Hill. Earlier this year, the business moved a few doors down and the storefront was listed on Compass, first for $13,000 a month, and later for $11,000.

It appears that Malin + Goetz, the New York-based apothecary will be the next renter of the space, opening its first outpost in Brooklyn this coming winter. The business already operates stores in Manhattan, Los Angeles, San Franscisco, London and several cities in China,

Malin + Goetz offers "simple skincare solutions from head-to-toe" as well as perfume oils and candles.

"Over the years, our award-winning formulations and iconic packaging have expanded from face, body and hair, to fragrance and candles. Our portfolio of neighborhood apothecaries in New York, Los Angeles and London, as well as distribution to select luxury retailers around the world, continue to grow. All while staying true to our original promise of uncomplicated luxury products for the modern woman and man.

We strive to support fellow local family owned businesses while offering the highest quality to our customers. Every formula is personally created by Matthew and Andrew in collaboration with trusted chemists local to our operations in New York. We manufacture our products with other small, family-run businesses in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Our candles are even handmade in Brooklyn! Working with these loyal local partners, we continue to expand our offerings without ever losing sight of what drove the success of our very first products back in 2004: high quality at affordable prices, with an ever-decreasing carbon footprint. (MALIN+GOETZ) is made in the USA and does not test on animals."

What do you think, fellow neighbors? A good addition to Smith Street or just another mini-chainlet store that we don't need here in Brooklyn?
