Listing for 335 Court Street on Douglas Elliman

A few days ago, friend and PMFA reader Phil reached out to us to ask if R.P.T. (Raimondi Physical Therapy) at 335 Court Street was closing since the business' awning had been removed recently.
There is also a 'For Rent' sign displayed in its window.

Luckily, we can report that as of December 1, 2019,  R.T.P., which opened in Carroll Gardens in 2000, is just moving two blocks further to 400 Court Street, a space recently vacated by a dry cleaner.

We got the good news from Doctor Miroslaw (Mike) Polanski, DC CACCP at Families First Chiropractic at 476 Court Street, who told us that he refers a lot of his own clients to R.T.P. He himself has used their services in the past.
"They saved me from having knee surgery twice" Dr. Mike told us. "I highly recommend them."

R.P.T.'s current location at 335 Court Street is being offered for rent by Douglas Elliman for $7,000 a month.  From the listing:
"335 Court Street is located on a prime north Carroll Gardens location only 2 blocks from the Carroll Street subway. This mixed use building with wide front glass window to street is approximately 1500sqft with additional significant storage in basement. Outstanding for ANY reasonable use, Retail ,Restaurant or Office; the location is attractive and puts you in the heart of Court Street a vibrant downtown residential community ready for an exciting new business. The Open floorplan creates an adaptable usage with an owner ready to assist you . Call or email for additional information and/or to schedule an appointment. Concessions may be offered to a business the owner deems capable of a long term relationship."

Now that R.P.T's awning has been removed, the old metal sign of a previous business that once occupied both #335 and #337 Court Street has become visible again.  Aiello's Food Store, was a large delicatessen, that had belonged to an Italian family. By the early 1980's, the business had been taken over by a Russian couple, who did not have the best people skills and ended up running the business into the ground.
In the photo below, one can also detect the former Rainbow Green Market and Renaissance Pharmacy, which was run by two lovely ladies.
Who remembers Aiello's, Rainbow and Renaissance?

Yes to Rainbow, yes to Renaissance.

The Rainbow grocery was such a particular throwback. It didn't strike me as old-school Carroll Gardens -- it had more of a crunchy, health food vibe. In hindsight, given the way the neighborhood has developed since then, Rainbow feels like the kind of store you can scarcely believe existed in that spot.

And of course, the big pharmacy chains have all but run the independent stores out of existence.

Yes, I know what you mean. Jim and Andy on Court Street in Cobble Hill was a pioneer when it came to produce selection as well.

Thank you for the old photo. I remember my grandmother and I walking up Court St (from 3rd Place) so she could go shopping in Aiello's.. That was in the 60s

Would love hear some of your memories of the neighborhood then

Yep--we shopped at Rainbow and Aiello's (70s, 80s, until they closed). And Renaissance. And at the corner of Union, that was still the ILA office. Another commenter said Rainbow wasn't so old school CG--my mother may have had a hand in that. They started stocking things like endive because she kept asking for them.

Haha, I just remember that they kept the ‘fresh’ stuff in the refrigerated section In the back of the store and sold the wilted stuff on the sidewalk. I knew I was a Carroll Gardener when they finally sold me veggies from the back.

I shopped at all three places. Loved the Pharmacy. The women had an old guy delivering medications. Rainbow was was cool. I still see one of the guys around the hood with his dog. Not so much anymore. The Russians I loved and they made a great Sandwhich. That enamel sign is so good. Just like Marietta’s sign which is now buried. Maybe someone will keep it. Probably not. Get ready for a bank.

i don't understand it, and we all make fun of it, but the banks around here are ALWAYS busy. (maybe not the one by Gourmet Fresh) but the TD, Cap1, Shitibank and Chase are always bustling.

I remember Aiello's! I lived around the corner at 322 Sackett. I remember walking in one afternoon to the sight of the two Aiello brothers wrestling on the floor. They must have been in their early 40's, but they were rolling around on the floor like they were preteens. I needed to buy something, so I just stood there and waited until they realized neither one of them was going to win, so they stood up, brushed off their clothes, and went back to work. I shopped at the Rainbow Market also. Nice people.
