Swallow, the amazing artists' gallery at 361 Smith Street in Carroll Gardens is closing its doors at the end of February and the news hit us hard when we learned of it yesterday. For the past 21 years, this little treasure of a store has been offering beautiful and unusual ceramics, glass, jewelry and other decorative art. It will be missed.

A 'store closing' sign has been hung from its window and the owner, Anne send the following email out yesterday:
Dear Friends an Customers
It's the end of an era.
After 21 glorious years providing hand-crafted treasures to the neighborhood, NYC, and visitors from all over the world, Swallow will be closing at the end of February.
Please stop by. I would love to personally give my thanks and say goodbye to everyone!
If you have friends that are fans of the store, please let them know.
Thank you.
Anne

We received quite a few emails expressing sadness at this goodbye. Over the past few years, we have stopped by many times and always found that perfect gift. We are heartbroken that it is leaving.

We lose this kind shop and gain a French products store. Which is welcome in any event. It’s been a long time coming. The French Marché. I think it’s called French Deli. Up on court. Anyway. I’ll miss walking by swallow.

Sad news indeed.
Katia, do you know if the owner retiring or if this is another case of High Rent Blight moving in where a neighborhood shop stood?

What a lovely shop Swallow was. I bought many gifts there & still have precious items I bought for myself over the years. Swallow will be missed.

Gotta make room for another nail salon or kids store.

Swallow will be greatly missed. Its success was due to the unique, trendsetting vision and exceptional talents of owners Anne and Ria who pioneered Smith Street's retail landscape at the end of the last century.

To Anne: Trust me,, there is life after retail! Wishing you all the best.

To Katia: Hello, miss you, keep up the good work.

I once bought a most sculptural teapot there. And my favorite items were the spiderweb glass trivets
