'Nectar' at 198 Court Street and below, Tropic, which opened directly across the street in January

Sad neighborhood news. Nectar, the tiny sandwich shop and juice bar at 198 Court Street between Congress and Warren, has closed its doors just over a week ago. The interior of the store has been totally stripped and the signage removed. For many in the neighborhood, Nectar was favorite food option because of its reasonable prices, super fresh food, besides being very kid-friendly.
(Did you ever try their Sweet potato avocado sandwich)

When the much larger "Tropic" Juice Bar and Grill opened at 205 Court Street, directly across the street at the end of January of this year, many readers pledged that they would continue to give their business to Nectar.
No word yet on the reason for Nectar's demise, but the proximity of a second juice bar can't have helped business.

Will you miss Nectar?

****UPDATE****
A reader just posted the following comment:
"Nectar has not closed. Just moved down the block into the Strong Place space at Court St./Douglass (same owners). It'll be Nectar during the day and Strong Place in the evenings.
The current landlord at the old Nectar space refused to allow them to put messaging up announcing the news. So please support them in their new space."

If that is the case, we not only should support them, but let others know so that they may continue to stay in business in the neighborhood.

Tropic, a new juice bar/deli has opened its doors at 205 Court Street just recently.  Aside from smoothies, protein drinks, and aloe drinks.  Tropic also offers wraps, sandwiches and granola bars.
Though they are a few seats in the back, the place is more of a take-out place.
This location was the home of Wyckoff Corner Pharmacy for many years. (The pharmacy has relocated  across the street to 203 Court Street)

Have you stopped in yet?  What do you think?

In the past few years,  with the expansion of national drug store chains into the neighborhood, quite a few family-owned pharmacies have had to close their doors. (Anyone remember Renaissance?)
But amidst the Rite Aids and CVS', one family-owned pharmacy seems to not only survive, but thrive.
For the last six years,  Bassam Amin, owner of Wycoff's Corner Pharmacy at 205 Court Street has been filling prescriptions for local residents and has offered vitamins, natural herbs and surgical equipment.
Since the space is rather small, Amin will be expanding into the storefront at 203 Court Street just across the street, which was vacated recently by Yemen Airways/ Arabian Horizons Travel.*  The business will move as soon as work is completed.
Amin told me that the new store will provide him with double the space, which will allow him to fill more prescriptions and carry more items.   Good for him.  It can't be easy competing with all the chain stores.
He obviously is doing something right.

If you want to support a locally-owned pharmacy, give Wycoff's Corner Pharmacy a try.

*Just for an FYI, Yemen Airways/ Arabian Horizons Travel has moved to 6709 5th Avenue. Phone# 718 797 0906
