Yesterday's News, Everyone's Favorite Antiques And Collectables Store In Carroll Gardens, Is Expanding

Since 2001, Yesterday's News, the corner store at Court Street and 2nd Place in Carroll Gardens has been selling fun antiques and collectables at very reasonable prices.  Whether one is in the market for a mid-century teak dining set, a vintage dresser, garden planters with a nice antique patina, a funky piece of custom jewelry, or simply an old postcard, there is something for everyone here.

So it is a real pleasure to report that Yesterday's News is expanding into the storefront next door, which was recently vacated by Try Rae's First.

Combining its existing commercial space at 428 Court Street with 430 Court Street will give Yesterday's News the opportunity to not only sell more inventory, but to stay open during inclement weather.   Currently, a lot of their  merchandise is displayed on the sidewalk. It all needs to be moved inside at night and when it rains. On wet days, the store remains closed because one cannot move amidst the larger pieces of furniture.

We hope that the expansion means that Yesterday's News will be part of the Carroll Gardens community for many more years.

What do you shop for when you go in to this store.  what kind of fun items have you found here lately?

Celebrating 32 Years On Court Street: Try Rae's On Court Street Holding Special Sale

PMFA likes to highlight independently-owned businesses in Carroll Gardens.
One of these businesses is Rae at 430 Court Street, which first opened its doors back in 1986.

With neighborhood stores opening and closing at an alarming rate lately, it is worth celebrating those that continue to thrive. Owner Raina Passo credits Rae's success to her customers' loyalty and support of small businesses.
"Fashions come and go and neighborhoods change but the one thing that I have strived to remain the same is good old fashion customer service," Raina told us in 2016.

Rae is holding a big sale this week-end, Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th.
Stop on by, browse the fall merchandise, and say hi to Raina.

'Try Rae's First', on Court Street, is getting ready to celebrate its 25th anniversary this week-end, with special sales, raffles and giveaways, as well as spirits and sweets.
While many new stores have come and gone, this wonderful boutique for men and women has been thriving here in Carroll Gardens.
The store's longevity is a tribute to owner Raina Passo, who has built a loyal following by offering trendy clothes at affordable prices.  Named in honor of her mother Rae, who sadly passed away before it opened, the boutique reflects Raina's keen eye for what is "in" at the moment. She obviously loves fashion and her enthusiasm is contagious. So is her smile.
"I feel as though I am shopping with my friends in this store" Raina explained to me when I asked her the secret of her boutique's success.  "I have made many friendships over the years.  People feel comfortable in the store.  The children and grand-children of my customers now come and buy here."  She also listens to what her customers want and gives them the best price, even extending a lay-away option.
Currently, Rae's is stocked with some of the trendiest brands: Penguin, Buffalo Jeans and Black Rivet for men, Bobi, BB Dakota and Vintage Havana for women, to name just a few.  For fall, Rae's carries a great selection of coats, including Spiewak.
Congratulations, Raina.  Here is to the next 25 years of success in Carroll Gardens.
