Halloween Ceramic Show At Clayworks on Columbia

If you are not familiar with Clayworks on Columbia, you should stop by and check out this wonderful ceramics studio at 195 Columbia Street (between Sackett and Degraw). Since 1994, the studio has offered master potters a place to create, provided gallery space and has offered classes to learners of all ages.

Currently, Clayworks is exhibiting the Halloween inspired work of some of its youngest students.

"At Clayworks on Columbia, things got a little spooky during the Children's Clay Class fall session. With Halloween approaching, the students, first through sixth graders, made ghosts, pumpkins, witches, black cats and other eerie creatures out of clay. The class meets weekly on Sunday mornings to turn mud into magic bringing endless imagination and inspiration. Their teacher, Demetria Chappo, a local Brooklyn ceramic artist, teaches the young clayers, beginning and advanced students aged 6-13, ceramic techniques on the wheel and handbuilding, like pinching, coiling, centering and slab-work. Some of their past projects have included banks, lanterns, face mugs, treasure chests and rattles.

The recent Halloween inspired work from the Kids Class will be on display October 30th through November 10th in the Clayworks Gallery Window at 195 Columbia Street (Sackett and Degraw).

Frogs, Whales And Suessian Creatures: Claywork On Columbia Displays Works Of Youngest Artists

If you don't know about Clayworks on Columbia Street, you should. The full service Brooklyn ceramic studio has been offering great classes and space for local artists for many years now.
In addition to adult classes, Claywork also provides Children's Clay Sunday for the very youngest artists.
Demetria of Clayworks just informed me of a fun show highlighting the works produced by theses mini-artists.  She writes:

We are having a student show of the work produced in our Kids Clay Class (6-10year olds) - we're celebrating their awesome cups, first ever wheel-thrown bowls, frogs, whales, Suessian creatures and so much more. and so much more.

The work will be displayed in the window at Clayworks on Columbia this Saturday and Sunday and we will have a reception for the kids on Sunday October 28 from 11:30a-12:30p (the kids will take home their work at the conclusion).

Clayworks on Columbia announces the opening of a small group show entitled Paper And Clay, a first joint exhibition of drawings and sculptures by Bonnie Levine and Naomi Hudson-Knapp. An opening reception will be held on March 24th from 4-8pm.
On exhibit will be Naomi Hudson-Knapp's drawings in walnut dyed ink and Bonnie Levine wood fires ceramics.

Clayworks On Columbia Exhibit Highlights Works By Studio's Current Teachers

Long ago, when my daughter was still small, she took pottery classes at Clayworks on Columbia with a lovely teacher named Toby. All these years later, Clayworks is still offering great classes and studio space for local artists.

On Saturday, September 17, from 4 to 7pm, the studio is hosting a reception for an exhibit featuring the ceramic work of their current teachers Freddy Borges, Sabrina Magnus, Susan Meltzer and Nathan Gwirtz.The exhibit will run through October 2.
They'd love for everyone to stop by.
