Four Car Collision On Clinton Street At President Street Last Night

If you live on Clinton Street near President Street, you may have heard a huge crash at about 9:30 pm last night.  It was the result of an accident involving four cars.  The driver who may have caused the crash seems to have fled the scene.
PMFA reader Chance Bliss lives nearby and immediately came out of his building to offer assistance.
He sent us this account of the accident:

Hey Katia,
Just so you know, there was a four car collision / hit and run just under thirty minutes ago, at the intersection of Clinton Street and President Street.

We heard the loud collision outside our window, over a block away, and then I ran over to the intersection to see what had happened.

When I arrived, there were already a dozen or so bystanders.

Several of them called 911 as I was there, while a friend of ours hailed down a police car at the intersection of Clinton Street and Union, who promptly ignored him and drove off down Clinton Street, away from the accident.

This happened again about five minutes later - another patrol car came down Union street, presumably from the 76th precinct, and several people ran towards the car, waving at it, but the driver ignored them, even though i could see that he look down the street in our direction, and proceeded to drive off down clinton street, towards Atlantic.

We waited over twenty-five minutes before anyone from the police or emergency services showed up.

One of the cars that was hit was a green cab - the driver said that he was moving down Clinton Street towards Atlantic when his taxi was hit by a white car in the middle of the intersection. According to the eyewitness I spoke with, this white car then proceeded to hit another parked car before driving off down President Street towards Henry. One person who was parking his citibike on President, near Henry, saw the car speeding towards him, then gave chase.

When I left the scene a few minutes ago, he was giving his account to the police officer who had arrived.
The driver of the taxi cab was dazed and seemed to be in a bit of shocked, but had no visible injuries.

In any event, it's outrageous that the police completely disregarded several attempts to reach them, and that it took emergency services over 25 minutes to arrive.

That is rather a long time for police to respond to several 911 calls. The crash site is just around the corner from the 76th Precinct on Union Street.  Why would the patrol cars just drive by without at least offering assistance?

Spotted in front of a brownstone on Clinton Street between President and Union Streets here in Carroll Gardens.
Of course, I took out my camera to take a photo of the sign. A passerby stopped to read it and informed me that the house just sold and that a realtor sign had hung from the post until recently.
Obviously, the new owner (or the realtor) has a sense of humor.

Cornice Of Clinton Street Building Comes Tumbling Down. No One Hurt.

Carroll Gardener Christian sent the photo above and reported to us that the cornice of a building on Clinton Street between Union and President Streets came tumbling down last night. The weight of the debris took with it the window lintel and some molding as well.
Luckliy, no one was injured, though the event rudely interrupted some late night stoop sitting.

At Noon Today, Fire Broke Out In Brownstone On Clinton Street At DeGraw Street

A friend and reader just sent me the photo above taken at around noon today on Clinton Street at the corner of De Graw Street.  Firemen were responding to a fire in a brownstone. " It looked like it was a furnace fire"  wrote the friend.

St. Paul's Church on Clinton Street will be hosting a rummage sale on Saturday June 11. 2011,10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the church's Parish Hall. The entrance is located on the Carroll Street side of the church (199 Carroll Street). Yet Another Sighting Of Carroll Gardens "Rodenti Stringytailum"

What are the odds of running into two opossums here in Carroll Gardens in one night? Obviously pretty good, because that is exactly what happened to Reader Sara B, who also sent in this critter snapshot. She thinks they were definitely different possums.
Damn! What's going on?

Susan writes:

No joke, we just saw another one. It was definitely different from the first; this one had a darker body with a lighter head, whereas the other was almost completely light. I was with the same friends -- ie: my neighbors. We were on 1st place between Clinton and Henry this time.
The critter was just hanging out on someone's porch. Are we chronicling an opossum infestation; a rodent family expansion; a beautiful gift from the genus rodenti stringytailum? Either way, one thing is for sure: CG is host to more than one O.Poss.Um.

that bloom beautifully for just a few days.

Philip Seymour Hoffman Directing "Jack Goes Boating" On Clinton Street In Carroll Gardens

'Jack Goes Boating' Filming March 4th, 5th and 6th in Carroll Gardens

Philip Seymour Hoffman has been directing and acting right here in Carroll Gardens in the last few days. That news came from friend Richard in an email yesterday. I checked it out for myself, and sure enough, crews were filming at Guido's funeral home on Clinton Street.

Hi Katia

Thought you might like to know that the reason why all those parking spaces are being taken over on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, March 4, 5, and 6, is that the movie "Jack Goes Boating" is being filmed in our neighborhood. The movie is based on the Broadway play and will be directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman of Capote and Doubt fame; it's his first time directing.

At minimum, Carroll, President, Clinton, and Court Streets are all affected. It would be nice if someone had given residents advance warning when the City decided to take away our parking spaces for three days. (Even nicer would haven been the movie company that's being accomodated arranging parking for those who are being disaccomodated.)

Doesn't someone -- CB6 or our local precinct -- get advance notice of these disruptions? It seems to me that (in the words of another short, fair-haired actor), "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

A Sweet Little Memorial To A Carroll Gardens (Canine) Friend

This sweet little memorial to Carroll Gardens canine resident "Summer" caught the attention of blogger friend David, who sent me the photo above and wrote:

Here is the photo I mentioned that I took on Clinton St between 3rd and 4th place. I saw this wonderful dog every day for two years as I rode to work on my bike. I looked up Google maps just to make sure I was correct on the cross streets and there in the photo on Google is Summer looking back at me.
