This Monday, Let's Give Thanks To Carroll Gardens' Servicemen At Memorial Day Ceremony In Carroll Park

This Monday, May 28th, please take some time to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony in Carroll Park to honor those who gave their lives to defend this country.
The ceremony is sponsored by Court Street Merchants Association and Friends of Carroll Park.
It will take place at 12 PM by the War Memorial in the Park.

Memorial Day Celebration In Carroll Park

If you stayed in Carroll Gardens during this long week-end, you may want to stop by Carroll Park for a Memorial Day Ceremony to express your thanks for the soldiers who fought and are currently fighting to protect this nation.

The brief ceremony will take place around the War Monument in the middle section of the park on Monday, May 30th at Noon.

A Touching Memorial Day Service In Carroll Park

Over the course of a year, most Carroll Gardeners walk past the war memorial in the center of Carroll Park many times, seldomly stopping long enough to reflect on its meaning or to read the long list of names on the bronze plaques of those in the community . I am guilty of that as well.

On this Memorial Day, though, young and old residents and elected officials gathered around the monument to pay tribute to those who served and who currently serve so that we may be safe. In a touching ceremony, Father Astor Rodriguez lead everyone in attendance in a prayer and a moment of silence.

Joan D'Amico, Vince Mazzone and Mike Polanski of the Court Street Merchants Association laid a wreath in front of the monument. Assemblywoman Joan Millman and Councilman Brad Lander were also in attendance. Assemblywoman Millman reminder everyone of the importance of saying thanks to the men and women who gave their lives to protect this country.

Hopefully, this will become a yearly ceremony in the park.

A Quiet Week-End In Carroll Gardens, Empty Streets And All

Pssst! I'll let you in on a little secret, dear Reader. It is actually a lot of fun spending a long week-end right in one's own neighborhood. None of the hassles of bumper-to-bumper traffic getting out of town, none of the frustrations of getting back in...

For those of you who escaped for Memorial Day week-end, let me say that it was so very nice and quiet here in Carroll Gardens. The streets were incredibly empty. Take a look at Smith Street above. Can you believe it? NO TRAFFIC and plenty of parking.

Maybe I shouldn't advertise it too much. You may get the idea of staying here yourself next year. And then, it would just be like any other week-end. But no matter where you were this Memorial Day, I hope had a great time!
