South Brooklyn Children's Garden at 204 Columbia Street will be celebrating its sixth annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 14, from 10 am to 2pm. The event is free and open to the public and a wonderful opportunity to meet others in the community. So mark your calendar and Mark your calendars and plan to bring your family.

The South Brooklyn Children’s Garden (the Garden), a community garden and urban farming cooperative at 204 Columbia Street in the Columbia Waterfront neighborhood of Brooklyn, announced today that it will host its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 14, from 10 am to 2 pm. Now in its sixth year, the Harvest Festival, which is free and open to the public, brings together community members of all ages to celebrate the autumn harvest and the role of urban farming in sustainable agriculture.
This year’s festival will include:
-Bake sale
-Pumpkin patch and decorating
-Face painting
-Live music from The Dad Beats
-Slices from House of Pizza and Calzones

Doors open at 10am and the Dad Beats perform at 12:30. This year’s Harvest Festival is made possible with the generous support of House of Pizza and Calzones.

South Brooklyn Children's Garden To Host "Spring Into Summer Festival" This Saturday, June 18

The mission of the South Brooklyn Children’s Garden (SBCG), a membership-based cooperative and public garden on Columbia Street is "to create a green space for children, their families, and the greater community to learn about their food sources and connect with nature through gardening." As such, it holds wonderful family events during the year.
This Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10am to 1pm at 204 Columbia Street (corner of Columbia and Sackett Streets),  SBCG will host its "Spring Into Summer Festival".

"The festival will be a celebration of the garden becoming an official NYC Parks Green Thumb garden, as well as the season and our community. It should be a great day out for families and kids of all ages.

Entrance is free, and the celebration will feature arts and crafts, face painting, a beekeeping demo, ladybug release and a performance by local band The Dad Beats. Special guests include Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and representatives from Green Thumb, Citizens Committee for New York City and the Food Bank for New York City.

The South Brooklyn Children’s Garden was formed in 2012 and is completely volunteer run. Last year, the garden began an ongoing partnership with the Food Bank for New York and was able to donate over 170 lbs of fresh produce. The garden also runs free educational classes for children ages 3-8 and writing workshops for students ages 8-12."

Become A Member Of The South Brooklyn Children’s Garden On Columbia Street For The 2016 Season

The South Brooklyn Children’s Garden (SBCG), a membership-based cooperative and public garden at 204 Columbia Street, is currently accepting applications for the 2016 gardening season. Join and you will receive a share of the harvest.
Throughout the year, SBCG holds a number of educational programing and members' event, as well as festivities that are open to the public.

The garden was founded as a green space for children, their families, and the greater community "to learn about their food sources and connect with nature through gardening." Through the efforts of its founders, this green oasis was recently transferred to the NYC Parks Department, which means that it will be permanently preserved as a community garden.

The annual membership fee per family is $70,  $40 per individual.

Fourth Annual Festival Celebrates Urban Farming and Will Include

Autumn Activities, Local Food, and a Harvest Pie Contest

The South Brooklyn Children’s Garden (the Garden), a community garden and urban farming cooperative in the Columbia Waterfront neighborhood of Brooklyn, announced today that it will host its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 24, from 10 am to 1 pm. Now in its fourth year, the Harvest Festival, which is free and open to the public, brings together community members of all ages to celebrate the autumn harvest and the role of urban farming in sustainable agriculture.

Last year’s Harvest Festival had more than 400 attendees, and this year’s festival is expected to draw an even larger crowd, with activities including harvest pie contest, pumpkin patch, face painting by Sharon of Fantasy Arts, Autumn crafts by Arts*Cetera, Crafty Kids Brooklyn, and Creatively Wild Art Studio, live music from The Dad Beats, and food from local restaurants

One of the highlights of the Harvest Festival, the harvest pie contest brings together local bakers to vie for coveted prizes and bragging rights. Amateur bakers are invited to bring a homemade pie containing autumn harvest fruits or vegetables to be judged by a distinguished panel that will include representatives from GreenThumb and Food Bank for New York City as well as local community leaders. The grand prize winner can choose either a free membership to the Garden for the 2016 season or a photography session from Erin Silber Photography, with second and third place winners receiving prizes donated by local merchants. All pies must be entered by 11:30 am, with judging taking place at 12:30 pm.

The South Brooklyn Children’s Garden is celebrating the autumn harvest and the role a farm plays in our food cultivation.
As our crops mature during October, autumn crops are ripe and read to eat straight from the garden. There's no better time than now to demonstrate the importance of farm to table eating and for children to learn about our food sources. The neighborhood, schools and children's programs have proven to be fantastic partners and we are excited to celebrate with them.
