Over The Bridge And The Canal For Free Ices

photo

A bit out of the neighborhood, but thought I would pass this along:

Uncle Louie G on Union Street and 5th Avenue* will be closing its doors for the season on Sunday. Till then, the owner is running a special: buy any item and get a small ice for free. Then on Sunday, the store will be giving away its remaining stock.

So head on over the Union Street Bridge and over the canal...to 5th Avenue.

* This is for the Louie G store on 5th Avenue at Union only. The one on Smith Street belongs to a different owner, and the offer does not apply.

News that Uncle Louie G's was taking over the former Area Store at 233 Smith Street travelled fast in the blogosphere and the community seems generally excited by the prospect of a new ice-cream parlor on Restaurant Row.
But the owners Louie G's have hit a snag in their business plan: they forgot to file the proper permit with the NYC Buildings Department to do the necessary plumbing and electric work.

Oooops! Seems someone ratted them out. Yesterday, as I walked by, the Building's
Department had taped a notice of violation on the store's window.
I guess the grand opening may be delayed for a bit.
