Going To The Brooklyn Ikea? Do Us All A Favor And Follow The Map!

oo
From Esquire, June 2006

Bus and Shuttle options for Ikea

Today is the big day! Ikea in Red Hook is finally opening. So listen up, Ikea customers! Do us all a favor, leave the car at home and take advantage of the bus and the Ikea shuttle service indicated on the map above.

You see, our local streets are already clogged. Smith Street, for example, has become a nightmare. Court Street isn't much better. If you insist on driving to the yellow and blue mega store, you will make the lives of people here in Carroll Gardens a whole lot more difficult.

So, please, be nice visitors. Check out Ikea's web site for ways to get to their Red Hook store using public transportation.

Those are the MTA bus routes, not driving routes, aren't they?

Hi Anon,
Oh, boy, you are right. I guess I should have taken a closer look at the map myself. But that is actually even better....let them take the bus or the shuttle. Ill correct the post right now.

Taking the bus is all fine and well, but how are people supposed to get their furniture home?

i went to ikea this noon and noticed that the traffic flow came mostly from the other side of van brunt. van brunt, columbia and their cross streets were quiet. the gridlock feared by many did not materialize.

oh well, i guess it's the "not in my backyard" mentality with regard to the traffic. however, if today's (Saturday) traffic flow is the benchmark, carroll gardens residents need to stop fretting. the jobs and health care benefits reaped by red hook residents from ikea are way more than enough to offset comparatively minor traffic inconveniences.

Well, Saturday seemed not so bad on Columbia Street but today it's seemed like I have highways on 2 sides of me rather than just one. (I'm on Summit.) Slow, trafficked, honking highways.

I'd go to Sokol's on Columbia over Ikea any day.

and please, don't drive down 9th street to get there. we've got enough traffic as it is.

Katie,
per your recommendation, I checked out Ikea's website to get the shuttle information, but after about 10 minutes of searching, I gave up. I even typed in "brooklyn shuttle" on their website's search engine and came up with nothing. did you find the shuttle schedule and route on their website?
