oo

Thanks so much to the Cobble Hill Blog for posting this little homage to the neighborhood. In case you haven't seen it yet, make sure to take the time to watch it.It is by Carolyn Cole of the Los Angeles Times. What a wonderful document.

That's a great piece. I lived on Sackett and Smith from the mid-80s through 1993 and remember Sam' and D'Amico's well. I was hunting around for information about the old neighborhood when I found your site. I'm amazed as much about what hasn't changed as I am about what has. Thanks for putting together a terrific website. Best - Bill Wolk

Hi Bill,
Welcome to Pardon Me and to the old neighborhood. You would be surprised if you saw the neighborhood now. Yes, there are still small pockets of "the way it was", but every day, another little mom-and-pop bites the dust. It is pretty sad.
Hope you will come back often tovisit the site.

Great piece indeed. Thank you Katia for your site.

I have been in Carrolls garden for 4 years, I guess I am part of the bad guys: young professionals with kids.

I love the area and I am not trying to change in anyway, but there is this inertie that goes along with the "bad guys", slowly but surely, the gentrifiers are coming...

And the ironic part is a blog is part of this gentrification...
(it helps the awarness of the greatness of this area)

I never lived in the area back then but my wife did and I think the area is great except for the few chain stores.

Great video and the icing on the cake is that it is Buddy free.

When I was five years old (in 1958), my parents took me to dinner at Sam's. My father didn't make a lot of money, but he splurged on a steak dinner and a rare night out for us. I still remember those banquettes, and they haven't changed in all these years. Every time I pass Sam's (which is quite often as I still live in Carroll Gardens), I think of that little dinner and special night out with my parents, seated in one of those red banquettes so long ago.
