Oooops! Clarett Does It Again At 340 Court Street!

oo

***UPDATE ON THE CLARETT SITE***

JUST ONE DAY AFTER THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE DEVELOPER PROMISED TO KEEP LINES OF COMMUNICATIONS OPEN!

This just landed in my mailbox from a neighbor of the Clarett Site :

Is this a pile driver I see before me?

No! Just the biggest jackhammer you’re likely to run across, making my banister shake and the neighborhood rock ‘n roll,

Deceptive though it may be (The big machine has VOLVO written over it. You expect the operator to carry a briefcase and be reading The Times), it is still capable of shaking things up. Someone just started yelling at it, from the street, saying “Hey! Why are you doing this? It’s seven thirty in the morning! I know the feeling.

And then I remembered why I was particularly angered by this, recalling our meeting yesterday and some of the things said by Clarett/Monadnock. Reference was made to the “no pile driving” promises that were made, in the context of the need to put pilings along the sidewalk line. It was said b them that “when we said “no pile driving” of course we were referring to the site (as opposed to the sidewalk, one presumes). Much like the struggle we had over the difference between “building,” as in, “the building is only 70 feet tall,” and “structure”, as in “the structure will be 84 feet.”

Which brings me back to the big yellow Volvo hammer. Mention was also made, yesterday, about installing measuring devices, to meter the forces that will act upon all the buildings in the area. I was personally told these were being installed, by the engineering and survey company, months ago! Looks like they are planning to wait until all the heavy work is done, and then say, “Look, smooth as a baby’s bottom!”
