Esposito's Pig On Court Street Gets A Makeover

oo

Esposito's at 357 Court Street

The familiar pig with its faded and chipped paint

After with a fresh coat of paint

First, a new awning and now, this!
A new shiny pig, too?
No, no, I was told.
It is just the old one, freshly painted.

But you know, dear reader?
I do think I liked it better before,
all weathered from years of welcoming customers on Court Street.

He looks cheerful! There's no pleasing you.

The original Esposito Pig, in all it's imperfect glory, is now only a faint reminder of a time and place in our society that has been replaced with a similar overcoat of shiny paint. We change with the rhythm of the moving crowds, imperfections no longer allowable, may the prettiest pig win.....

How sorry I am that I now only see a vain effort to disguise what was once a reminder to me of a simple time. A time when mediocrity was the norm and nothing more was expected.People were content to share good food, conversation and laughter without pretense.

And at the same time, I am not fooled by the glossy finish.
While I'll miss being greeted by Esposito's signature pig.I'll happily embrace the change with the satisfaction of knowing that etched in my heart will always be the memories of that odd looking pig and what it represented for me...

Hi Sheri,
Thanks so much for that comment. That is actually very much how I felt when I saw the "new" version of Esposito's trademark pig.
The character that only time could impart on it has been airbrushed away forever.
Sad...
