A Moment In Time: Court Street Double-Decker

oo

Labor Day week-end 2008

On President Street,
at the corner of Court.

A Brooklyn double-decker stroller
Being pushed through the unusually quiet streets.

How I love these long week-ends.

when i saw double decker, i remembered it was always a treat when my mom would go to Irace Bros. on court and president and pick up the order, whenever, it was always the right time, she would get the americam bread, etc., and ham, cheese, balonay, spiced ham, olive laof, prosciutta, supersadda, mozzarello, and make her special double decker sandwich, mustard, lettuce, tomotae, wow, i used to kid around wqith her, and "mom, you sure are a ham sandwich" but i was kidding then, i would never disrespect my mom like that, in all my 29 years, (lol) i have never seen on the menu, board, sandwich shop, deli "double deckers- $4.00 extra"
now there is an art that my mom hade to making the sandwich,
i.e. you get a slice of bread, (first deck) ham, baloney, capaioloa, prosciuto in generous helping, musatrd, mayonaise, whatever, salt, opeppre
(second deck) american, swiss, mozzarella, musatard, mayo, whatever, tomotae, lettuce
magnifico completeo with the 3rd bread
when the bread was really fresh, you press a bit
valore' wala
another secret was the saturday afternoons
"big boy, go get me 2, 3 frank sinatras"
and when i got back
the family had a sandwich made in heaven
"frank sinatras?", i said it was a secret, find out yourself

Where can I get a double decker sandwich? Or is this simething inly a mim can make? Some deli should make that a special. I know Frank Sinatra is a long loaf of bread. Caputio's has it. Delish! Celia Caccace once described a sandwich her mom used to make with stale loaf of bread. She'd hollow out the bread and stuff with fresh chopped tomatoes etc. Celia said it was the best What moms can do! I wish I knew how to make that, too. I just throw stale bread away, shame on me.
