When Bad Things Happen To Nice Houses!

oo

299 Warren Street

Oh say, what is that ugly thing on top of this lovely old carriage house?
299 Warren Street was once the home to Ytournel, a sweet little neighborhood bistro/take-out/grocery store that served authentic French food. The owners of the restaurant had lovingly restored the building and its interior. The exposed bricks and beams created a wonderful backdrop and the cosy decor transported you straight to Provence.
That was back in 2000. Ytournel never really took off unfortunately, though Eric Asimov of the New York Times had given it a very good review. When the bistro closed, the building was sold. Obviously, the new owner had a different vision for the old building. The result of the latest renovation? A very intrusive, very strange addition that robs this little brick beauty of any charm it once possessed.
Sad!

Pardon me for not asking for your opinion. I own this house and would like to tell you to go fuck yourself.

$1.7M at the height of the market + who knows how much for a gut renovation, and this is what they ended up with.

No you don't ... I own it. Both go fuck yourselves!

Wait, my bad, you do own it but now we all know 1) where you live and 2) that you're a bit of an aggressive a-hole!

I live on the block and happen to like it a lot. Its a lot better than the Disney Main Street school of architecture houses next door.

I actually like the addition... I think it's tasteful and well made...

truly hideous

I think it works.

What a shame that looks terrible. The owner should be taken to court and sued for making the area worth less. That just gave me an idea.

I really liked that restaurant Ytournel. But I think it was a bit to authentic rustic country for middle-class american tastes.
This reno has been going on for years.

After Ytournel, it was a place called "The Stables." Anyone know what that was about?

Well, it just goes to show, the addition to this one time lovely building is as tasteless and crass as the owner. You may have been insulted by the comments made to your 'home', but no one has used the vulgar language such as you.
You are a reflection of that structure. Tasteless.

Ytournel WAS a great place the couple times I ate there, what a shame the thoughtless creeps who put up the hideous 'addition' desecrated the block so... it looks like an abandoned building now. Sad. Just burn it down.

i was born and raised on Warren St 1951-86 as my older siblings were. my mother was born on state St and my grandmother on Pearl St. my gt grandfather died of the spanish flu on Warren St the next block down in 1917, this looks terrible and takes away from the nabe and looks more and more like Manhattan. the other new building look cheesy, the stable was they call was owned by Welsh's truck mover's in the 40s-the late 70s maybe 80s. way back in 1886 it was a carriage maker building.
