As of this afternoon at 3 PM.
Neighborhood blocks that haven't yet seen a snowplow. These were just a few I saw on a quick loop down Smith and back up on Court.

Just received this notice from Borough President Marty Parkowitz's office regarding the slow (read non-exisiting) plowing on Brooklyn side streets. He apparently welcomes our complaints. Great...Above are some of the unplowed streets I walked along this afternoon in Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill. Marty, can you do something about this?

I live on Bay 23rd Street in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. As of this moment, 4:30pm on Dec. 28th. my street has not been plowed at all. No cars can nor have tried to come down this street. the snow in the street has become a solid block of ice & snow. I have many friends throughout brooklyn & queens and everyone has all said the same thing; that their street has not been plowed. I have lived all my 40something years in bensonhurst. we have had many, many snow storms over the years. NEVER have I seen it were the street was not plowed within the 1st 24 hrs. Usually a plow and/or salt truck will come down the street while it is snowing and then additional plowing & salting of the street will happen immediately afterwards. It is beyond comprehension why this is happening; it is beyond excuses. If am emergency should happen on my block no vechicles could get down this street. I pray no one needs assistance on any of the many. many streets that have no access.

Katia, you've done a great job documenting the snowstorm in Bklyn. Looks beautiful, but hope those plows get out there soon!!! I've enjoyed following the (slow) removal progress from Va. We had a small amount down here. I can't get over the trapped subway stories. Must have been awful for people! Your shots of snow covered stairs at stations amazing, too!

Hi Allyn,
I hope you get back all right. My son's girlfriend was able to fly into La Guardia today, but had to lift her suitcase over huge banks of snow here in the neighborhood to get back to the house.
It has been quite a few fun days here in Brooklyn

krazycat 130,
Couldn't agree more. Didn't we have quite a snowstorm back in February 2010? I don't remember such a bad response removing the snow then.

I am beginning to suspect that the rumors I have heard about a DOS work stoppage are true.
When I got up to the corner of President and Hoyt and it looked like Hoyt had been plowed (note that President from Bond to Smith has NOT been plowed). I walked over to Union which has been plowed between Hoyt and Bond. The plow clearly turned onto Hoyt and all evidence of plowing stops between President and Carroll.
Union between Hoyt and Smith - not plowed
Carroll between Hoyt and Bond - not plowed

And what is up with the mail?

Invite him to judge an elementary school pie baking contest and he's there in a flash. What? He didn't notice until NOW?

I called his office and when I told the woman who answered which neighborhood I lived in she said that I had to call Joan Millman... the problem with that is that her office is closed until Jan. 4th....

Call JOAN? Isn't this a city issue? What about our city council member(s)?

Katia, you and krazykat are correct, and we've had many, many snowstorms and blizzards over the years. I can remember one in the mid-1990s when the plowing was botched (not including the "Lindsay" snowstorm in the 1960s). CG went unplowed for days, and it even brought out the local TV news choppers to check things out from above. This blizzard wasn't even in the top five (it was #6 among the worst snowstorms for NYC). There is definitely something fishy about so many streets left unplowed all over the boroughs.

I live on 83rd street in Bensonhurst (between 21st Ave & Bay Parkway) as of yet our street has not yet seen a plow since the end of the storm (one may have come down when the storm began but it is hard to tell). There was a car stuck & abandoned from Sun-Tuesday at the 21st street end blocking off the street from snowplows & 911 vehicles being able to enter (only to be replaced by two other vehicles that were stuck for a while- with a 4th currently stuck there now). Some of our neighbors on the street including myself teamed together to plow the street ourselves so that we can exit the block. we created a makeshift exit on the right most lane of the Bay Parkway exit. 2 vehicles decided to claim this makeshift exit for themeselves with one parking at the exit on the crosswalk putting all the houses on this block in a gridlock situation and making all the pedestrians have to walk into Bay Parkway in order to pass his car. He and the car behind him take turns leaving the block while 'saving their spots' for each other. I wrote a friendly note on his car explaining to him that he is blocking us all in and he still hasnt moved. I am hoping that our block can be shoveled and those cars that are still in the way removed so that 911 vehicles can access my street and i can feel safe.
