Though a stop work order involving the side courtyard has yet to be lifted by the NYC D.o.B, the new owner of the restaurant at 412 Court Street, on the corner of First Place, obviously feels confident that he will be able to open soon.
Vinzee's Magic Fountain, as the new burger joint will be called, already has a web site, a Facebook page and a Twitter account.
And according to a flier which appeared in the window recently, the eatery is now hiring.
Better get that issue with DoB resolved soon....
The space was occupied until recently by a laundromat and by 'Magic Fountain,' an ice-cream place that I never saw anyone go into.

I am surprised that this place hasn't fallen down. At least the Facade. If you go up to it, the molding and detail work is FAKE. Just plastic or cardboard shapes sprayed with lightweight textured paint. REALLY cheap-o. And what is 'Vinzees' mean anyway? A nick name for Vincent? Thankfully the building hasn't been painted orange like its neighbor.
I love how the paint is already peeling from the aluminum windows.
And yes, a strange name for a restaurant, even a hamburger joint.
It says on their facebook page:
"We use fresh ingredients provided by local distributors and our products are all eco-friendly."
If it is true, not some marketing BS, then I may give it a try and support them!
Seriously, thats the name? Thats almost as bad as "Happy Pants Cafe"
it looks terrible. the carroll gardens version of the new crapshow called cheeburger cheeburger coming to park slope.
@Anonymous: "We use fresh ingredients provided by local distributors and our products are all eco-friendly." is pretty vague.
Local distributor could mean a bodega. Eco-friendly may mean that they use real vegetables (compost! = eco friendly)....so yeah. Unless if they name some names, I'm hardly convinced.
My then boyfriend (now husband) and I went into the Magic Fountain about 6 years ago when we first moved to the neighborhood. There were a couple of older people sitting just outside; we didn't realize they were the owners/workers. They yelled in to us asking what we wanted. We told them just some coffee (the sign said they sold coffee) and they said "We're closed!" So we walked out of the place, not really understanding why they would let us walk past them into their store if they were "closed". It looked like they hadn't sold anything in 15 years, and they probably didn't want to sell us anything anyway.
That's funny. I always hoped no one would go in there and eat the ice cream from those Softee machines. It was so dirty in that place. But maybe the machined didn't even work.
I think the only thing the Magic Fountain sold in the last twenty years were lottery tickets.
these comments are cracking me up. it WAS such a weird place! she always shuffled around in the most dumpy clothes and looked like she hadn't seen the light of day in years. they would reuse the same trash bag in the laundromat until it was shreds! i bet they have piles of $100 bills under their mattresses. they're probably billionaires. anyone know if they left the neighborhood? their front yard on 1st has always been an eye sore.
maybe if they would of named the place stella, rainbow, griffen or atakis you would have liked it more? You all are joking on the name some person gave to a burger joint but what about the names you give to your children??!!!! who are identified by these names for lifee!
I'm cool with a place named Griffin, Atticus, Stella, but not Rainbow or Vinzee's Magic Fountain of burgers coming out a top hat.
Haha. That kids name comment really isn't fair, but funny. People go into Stinky, a name I have a private pet peeve about.. I actually loved the "dumpiness" of ye old Magic Fountaine and had a milkshake or two. They never had chocolate ice cream just vanilla and chocolate syrup. The place was a fading lady that couldn't compete with unfortunate gentrification and they didn't really care.
The Facade really is cheap and will rot away in time. With all the REAL STONE and BROWNSTONE resurfacing companies that do amazing work on the neighborhood structures why not DO IT RIGHT?? Also, "Local" meat purveyers could mean Jetro NOT Staubitz or some hipster meat place like Marlow & Daughters or a direct from the farm etc. I think if they skimp on the building they will skimp in the foods. I suspect food service grade meats. But, if hey get that garden approved, people will go for that alone. Owners, if you are reading this redo the facade with real materials that will last! Not some Disneyland fakery that will chip off and crack and decay and have to be replaced in 3 years. Fix it now..before Spring and you will be happy.
So there's a stop work order on this because they want to use the "garden" for seating during the summer. That's bad. But Hannah Senesh school using their "garden" as a parking lot is totally cool.
Got it!
yo why r you guys hating on the old owners? saying the have dumpy clothes n a dirty place? and thts the type of comment you make your comment of the day? KATIA!!! i am VERYY disappointed in you !!!THIS IS NOT 5TH GRADE why would you even go into a place you felt was dirty what does that say about your judgement simply stay way ! OHHH WAITT i forgot all you newbies are so nosey doesnt matter who nice or dirty the place you want to stick your nose in it .. they were open for so many years for a reason they probably have more money you will see in a life time GOD BLESS
Hey Nattyyyy- Maybe we can talk to them about donating money on how to type a sentence, not a Charlie Sheen rant? I can't follow what you wrote and I am sure I am not the only one.
Yo, anon feb 25th, 3:04, I got what nattyyyy was saying loud & clear--newbies DO NOT like the oldtimers & are constantly ragging on them (us). The 'nasaltones' like the idea of living in an 'italian' neighborhood, but yet abhor the oldtimers at the same time. You can't have it both ways. Also, it shows poor breeding on their part. At least, the old timers (Italians) knew the meaning of respect!!! Long live the old timers!!!!!!
this is straight hood talk yoo learn to love it u aint in ohio no more u in SOUTH BROOKLYN
I passed by there the other day and bumped into what I think was the owner, he seemed fairly young and friendly. I think given his age its his first business venture and we should try and support all new entrepreneurs. I must say I hated the magic fountain and the laundry mat was a disgrace...but let's not knock this place until we try it...
