At 2,250 square feet, the commercial space at 229 Smith Street in Boerum Hill, has to be one of the larger ones on Smith Street. (Later listings adjusted the size to 1,900 sf.) The former medical office has been empty for quite some time now. Back in January 2010, it was for lease by Smith Hansen Real Estate for $6,500 a month.
It now seems that the space has finally found a new tenant. A NYC Department of Buildings permit indicates that a new Yoga studio will be coming to that location. The application is filed under Prana Power Yoga, an outfit which started eight years ago in the Boston area, where they currently have studios in Newton, Cambridge and in Winchester. There is even a Prana restaurant/café in Newton.
It would appear that the studio on Smith Street will be Prana's first in New York City.

They also have a location in Union Square. It's a great studio, really nice people and you can reserve your spot online. Just walked by the Smith Street location yesterday, the sign is up and it looks like it's not going to be too long before it opens.
