Moscot, the nearly hundred year old New York City eyewear institution with flagship stores on Orchard Street and 14th Street in Manhattan has crossed the river into Brooklyn, taking over the former Photo/flower shop at 159 Court Street.
According to its web site,  Moscot, a family business,  was started by patriarch Hyman Moscot, "who arrived from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island in 1899.  He began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street on Manhattan's famed Lower East Side."
One wonders why it took so long for the Moscot family to have ventured into our fair borough.

It's fantastic to see the original detail on the building uncovered and intact. Really dresses up the block.

Yes. It is a cool old place. I love Moscot. Especially the Orchard street location. Sadly, hipsters now work the counter and their signature frames are not made by hand but in China. I asked them why not Italy and they had no real answer. I've had the same style break in exactly the same place twice within a year of normal wear. I liked them better when they didn't have their own line. Now, I'm certainly not poo pooing them as a whole. I mean, they couldve opened in Williamsburg. I'm still a fan but just disappointed with certain products.

MOSCOT here!

Anonymous, we take customer service and the quality of our frames VERY seriously. If your frame has broken twice, please reach out to our customer service department at customerservice@moscot.com for assistance. We want all of our fans to be happy!

Folks, we've been producing our own MOSCOT branded frames – based on our family archives - for the past six years. And no, our frames are not hand made (although they are hand adjusted), but they are produced with a lot of love, care, and the highest quality optical materials. We do not produce our frames in Italy because it is important to us that our eyewear remain accessibly priced.

And as far as hipsters behind the counter go, we do have some cool cats at MOSCOT. The MOSCOT family is comprised of fun, creative people from all walks of life that love what they do and love the brand. But hip is in the eye of the beholder…and we're sure Marilyn, who has worked behind the counter at Orchard Street for over 40 years, and Frank (Frankie!), who has worked the Orchard Street counter for 30 years would be overjoyed, if not a bit surprised, to be called hipsters! We certainly think they are!

Anyway, please reach out to customer service department about your frames.

Brooklyn rocks! We can't wait to open!!

Hey Mr Anonymous,
MOSCOT obviously tries real hard to keep their frame prices accessible for their fans...C'mon, made in Italy would triple the price!...That would be uncool..At $200 for a quality frame from an Original heritage new york brand with the best service in NYC..That's value! And by the way, your iphone is made in China too...
