Yet Another Nail Salon On Court Street. This One Replaces A Book Store

Another freaking nail place will be opening on Court Street soon. This one will be occupying the basement level storefront at 354 Court Street, between President and Union Streets. The location was previously home to Pranga Bookstore, which closed in September 2012.

The new nail salon is oddly named "Suith II." Does anyone know where Suith I is located?
Workers were installing a dreadful Pepto Bismol colored awning over the window this morning.

I know that everyone has been wondering how many of these places can survive with all the competition and high rents.  Are they fronts for something that we are not aware of?
Or is there just more of a need for manicures and pedicures than for, say, books?

Same owners as Smith Nail on Smith between Degraw & Douglass. It's supposed to be Smith II but I guess it was lost in translation!

Thanks for the clarification. "Suith" did sound a bit strange.

That color! Maybe the neighborhood will have success getting the signage changed. Didn't that work with 16 Handles?

This location was a nail salon where I used to go for many years before Pranga occupied the space. I agree with Anon 4:05...the signage is supposed to read "Smith II." In fact, that's what I thought it said until I took a closer look.

Aside from the nail salon. Any news regarding the new stores that might open on the block before this (court between sackett and union) ? I rather find out information on those front stores than another nail salon (no offense).

I did overhear the construction workers saying that a TD Bank office will be located on the corner of Union and Court. Nothing very exciting, in other words.

One of the commercial tenants is reportedly going to be a branch of TD Bank. I don't know how large a space they'll occupy or who the other tenants will be.

I heard TD Bank as well.

Bully here...

The headline is incorrect. Should be "Yet Another Nail Salon On Court Street. This One Replaces A Vacant Storefront."

The thing about stores moving into the neighborhood...you don't get to choose them unless you're the one opening it. Now, the market will chose what survives and fails, and that is presumably what happened with the bookstore. But would you honestly prefer this remain an empty storefront?

Hey, Bully,
You are correct that the market decides what survives and what fails.
I guess nail places are just a sad indicator of what we are all about these days.
Or simply, we can get our books online, but we have not figured out how to get our nails done online yet.

can someone talk to the owner to tone down the signage? It does look like a big bottle of Pepto Bismol!
