'Owl Tree Kids': A Curated Kids' Consignment Store Will Soon Open On Court Street In Carroll Gardens

BoCoCa parents, get ready to shop at 'Owl Tree Kids', a new upscale consignment store at 354 Court Street between Union Street and President Street in Carroll Gardens.
Started as an online business in 2018 by Brooklyn mom Molly Patrick Epstein, the new store offers
curated stylish brand name second-hand children's clothes and accessories for boys and girls, sizes 0-16, as well as maternity clothing, sizes 0-20.

According to its web site:
"After 20 years in fashion retail, founder & CEO Molly Patrick Epstein had enough of the constant churn and excess of the apparel industry and longed for a way to take part in making changes that would create a positive impact. As a mom to three little girls, constantly watching beautiful clothes get outgrown at practically lightening speed felt like a huge, unnecessary waste, both economically and environmentally.

That’s when Owl Tree Kids was born, created to be a destination for lightly used or like new boy’s and girl’s clothing and accessories, as well as maternity wear. We’ve done the hard work of cleaning, sorting, and curating our products into the online shopping experience you’ve always wished for from secondhand apparel."

Owl Tree Kids held a pop-up shop at the Court Street store in March and will open for good this Thursday, April 4th at 11 am.  We poked our heads in during the pop-up and bought several items for our grandson. The prices were great and we are looking forward to shopping there again soon.

Vegas Style Lighting For New Nail Salon On Court Street

What is it with new businesses insisting on Vegas-Style lighting in the neighborhood?
A few weeks back, the new Investors Bank on Court Street illuminated the night sky with a brightly lit awning.  After neighbors complained to headquarters, the bank dimmed them.
Now Smith II , the new nail salon  at 354 Court Street, has just installed some rather offensive storefront lighting around their Pepto Bismol-colored awning.  And the place hasn't even opened yet. Reader Serra sent in the photo above this morning.
One could have made an argument that a bank needs lights for security, but a nail salon?

By the way, the name of the place is a bit confusing. Yes, it is called 'Smith II', but it is on Court Street between President Street and Union Street. Actually, the awning first read Suit II, but the spelling mistake was fixed.
Apparently, the store is owned by the owner of Smith Nails on Smith Street.

Yet Another Nail Salon On Court Street. This One Replaces A Book Store

Another freaking nail place will be opening on Court Street soon. This one will be occupying the basement level storefront at 354 Court Street, between President and Union Streets. The location was previously home to Pranga Bookstore, which closed in September 2012.

The new nail salon is oddly named "Suith II." Does anyone know where Suith I is located?
Workers were installing a dreadful Pepto Bismol colored awning over the window this morning.

I know that everyone has been wondering how many of these places can survive with all the competition and high rents.  Are they fronts for something that we are not aware of?
Or is there just more of a need for manicures and pedicures than for, say, books?

Pranga Bookstore On Court Street Saying Farewell

Sad news! Pranga Bookstore at 354 Court Street, is closing. When the store was selling books for $1.00 last week, some of you readers saw the handwriting on the wall.  Yesterday, Pranga was giving the rest away for free and a big "For Rent" sign from Brownstone Realty has been attached to the fence.
Pranga bought and sold new as well as used books, CDs and DVDs and was a great resource for overstock and discount items.  The store's website only states: "Pranga Bookstore is closing soon. "
This place will be missed.

I believe that this was a nail place before Pranga moved in.
