Another closing on Smith Street.
This past saturday evening, I was going to join some neighborhood friends for dinner at Coco Roco, the Peruvian restaurant at 139 Smith Street. When I arrived, my friends were standing outside the place and pointed to a a sign in the window indicating that the eatery had closed. For good. Brown paper has already been taped to the windows.
Yesterday, as I walked by, it seemed as though some construction was underway. I asked someone who was stepping into the place if the restaurant was definitely closed and he confirmed.
Coco Roco has been a fixture for a number of years. It started at this location as Cholita back in 2005.
In recent years, customer reviews on Yelp have been rather critical.
No mention of the closure appears on Coco Roco's web site. The establishment has a sister location on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, unless that has closed as well. Does anyone know? Will you miss Coco Roco on Smith Street?

Surprised no one has noticed the finance district transplant invasion on Smith street, Mad Dog and Beans. Yuppies rejoice.
It was time to close.
I was amazed Coco Roco lasted as long as it did.
Coco Roco was great, a mainstay in our food ordering rotation. Bummed that it's gone.
