"The Americans" Filming In And Around Carroll Park on Wednesday

Though set in Washington, D.C., Fox's period drama The Americans has been filmed in big parts in Gowanus, Boerum Hill and Carroll Gardens.
This Wednesday, the show about KGB agents  "Philip" (Matthew Rhys) and "Elizabeth Jennings" (Keri Russell), will be filming in and around Carroll Park.

Don't forget to move your car by 11PM tomorrow if you are parked near the park on Smith Street, Carroll Street and President Street.

I hate how The Americans have been taking over the neighborhood for their filming. A great inconvenience. And nothing's in it for the community.

I disagree with Agnes's comment. I love all the film & tv productions being filmed in our neighborhood. It gives me a thrill to see our local "landmarks" depicted on the screen: Scotto's funeral home was the apartment of an informant, a spy was kidnapped outside the proteus gowanus building, Russian spies has a secret meeting at the cement mixing plant. Last week FBI asset "Red" Reddington was digging through record crates at Black & Gold. As time passes, and the neighborhood changes, we're going to value having our neighborhood memorialized in these productions not to mention the income they are generating for many local residents & businesses.

You mean the jobs it brings to the neighborhood Agnes? The show is filmed at Easter Effects on Nevins st and the production offices are on Douglass st. Where do you think those people buy their lunches every day? I mean one of the stars of the show actually lives in the area and I know at least one professional extra who lives in the city and gets a lot of work from shows like The Americans, The Good Wife and Boardwalk Empire.

The pros comments sound a bit contrived. I live right next door to your Americans production site, that's right, on Nevins and Sackett, and you don't buy lunch in the neighborhood. You have your food trucks lining the street, Nevins Street, displacing parking spaces needed by the community, one person is disabled and can't park his car in front of his house when you film there, you put up signs that go on for week after week, your food trucks leave garbage outside our building. We've complained. Nope, you do nothing for the community but use it. And as much as I support industry, I really wish you had never come to take over the old Conkiln Brass.

According to the NYC website (http://www.nyc.gov/html/film/html/for_residents/faq.shtml), filming in NYC contributes about $7.1 Billion each year to the local economy and employs 130,000 New Yorkers. That's quite a contribution. Maybe it doesn't benefit our local community directly but I think it makes sense for the City to direct those funds to the communities that need the money the most.

to anon 11:44 -yep, that's what the Americans worker told my neighbor when he was complaining about not being able to park, and having to walk down several blocks with his walker. The Americans worker pretty much straightforward said that the money their industry was bringing to the city made them more powerful - their wishes and needs mattered more than his. Needless to say, this did not bring good will to Nevine Street between Sackett and Union. And they leave their garbage and litter the streets, and leave a bad taste with their "we're more important to the economy than you."

J.S., did you try the number the City wants you to call (Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting) - am curious if they were able to help.
"If a problem remains, contact the OFTB immediately by dialing 212-489-6710, so that the problem can be rectified while the project is still in production. After business hours, you can contact a Supervisor of the NYPD Movie/TV Unit at 646-739-9900. The OFTB will take appropriate action right away." Regarding trash, it says, "Production cannot use Dept. of Sanitation trash cans or leave trash bags at curbside among residential or business trash" so you should report that. I'm not sure what they're supposed to do about disabled people who need to use the sidewalk but maybe someone at that same number can help out with that too? I get what you're saying but it does seem that $7 Billion is a lot of revenue for all of us to keep in mind. I'm not sure what the answer is but certainly everyone should be courteous with the neighbors regardless of the amount of money they are generating. I'm not affiliated with TV or film and have been annoyed myself in the past but only by the minor inconvenience regarding parking and sidewalk use but after someone pointed out to me how much the City (i.e. "we") get from these productions, I've been way more understanding and open to it all.

We tried everything 4:27. Ask anyone on that block who has been affected. Thank god workers are tearing down the streets, it's better than having them film there, that's how unwelcome they have made themselves. Btw, where did this 7 billion figure come from, be ause it does't add up. They're getting so many freebies, like cops and free locations. I think that number is made up, or some fancy accounting work.

These people are atrocious. They are filming in front of my building and are being unnecessarily loud at very early hours in the morning. They stand in front of my door so I can't leave and are disturbing the trash and recycling bins. I just tossed it at them - let them deal with it. Lots of people standing around doing nothing anyway. If it continues, will be calling to complain.
