Film crew in front of Sal's Pizzeria on Court Street this afternoon.
Loved the white and red checkered tablecloths of the outdoor tables and the crowd gathered to watch.  Does anyone know what film or show was being shot there today?

When The 'Godfather Of Harlem' Comes To Carroll Gardens

(photos courtesy of Pearl Lau)

If you happened to walk down Smith Street and President Street along Carroll Park this past Monday, you may have felt as though you were time traveling back to the 1960s. That's because scenes for the upcoming Epix T.V. drama "The Godfather of Harlem," were being shot right here in the neighborhood.

According to a synopsis on Wikipedia, the series tells the "true story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson, who in the early 1960s returned from ten years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control. During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X – catching Malcolm’s political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart."The TV prequel to the 2007 film, 'American Gangster' stars Forest Whitaker, Vincent D'Onofrio, Paul Sorvino and Ilfenesh Hadera. It will air in 2019.

Did you catch any of the action? Did you take photos that you might want to share?

Sal's Pizzeria on Court Street was temporarily turned into a fictional eatery named Salduccis', complete with food truck, for the filming of an episode of 'Blue Bloods' today. The CBS series, features Tom Selleck as Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, the patriarch of an Irish-American family of police officers with the NYC Police Department.
No sign of Selleck, but someone pointed out Will Estes, who plays Jamie, the youngest son.

Sal's Pizzeria and its sister restaurant Mama Mia have seen quite a bit of filming action of late.  Just recently, Chef Ramsey filmed an episode of his Kitchen Nightmares at Mama Mia.

McDonald's was filming a commercial here in Carroll Gardens today.
Over the week-end,  'no parking' notices had been posted on Smith Street from 4th Place to around DeGraw Street and on several side streets.
This afternoon, there only seemed to be some filming activity at the corner of Smith and 3rd Streets.
I might have missed it, but was there more filming activity in the morning that would have warranted the elimination of all that parking today?

It's Christmas In April On Smith Street....Update!

IMG_0356

IMG_0358

No, you aren't dreaming. And yes, these are Christmas lights you see strung across Smith Street...in April. Just as the daffodils are blooming, the trees budding and everyone is awakening from a long winter slumber, Director Gary Marshall throws us back (or forward, if you prefer) to the holiday season. He is shooting his new film "New Year's Eve" on Smith Street at Douglass this Friday. The scene is supposed to take place on a spot where a restaurant burned down long ago.

Merry Christmas, everyone! And have a happy New Year.

UPDATE:
I was just informed by a reliable source that shooting may take place on Thursday night instead because of the weather forecast. Sarah Jessica Parker & Josh Duhamel in the Smith Street scene

A Trolley Ride Along 5th Avenue In Brooklyn Circa 1938

Found on You Tube From: sodadaze

Oh what a find! I am so thrilled. A Brooklyn Trolley ride circa 1938. Click on this quickly. There is Fifth Avenue, there is Flatbush Avenue, there is Bergen Street. The tram goes all the way to 9th Street. Look at the buildings, the cars, the mothers with their prams. The past is coming alive again.
Did I mention I am excited?
