For the past few months, white plastic sheeting enveloped one small section of Lightstone Group's 700-unit rental development at 363-365 Bond Street that has been going up on two blocks on the shores of the Gowanus Canal.
The plastic on the section between First Street and Second Street closest to Bond came down a few days ago, revealing a brick façade and windows.
This part of the development is six stories high. Those sections closest to the Gowanus Canal will be 12 stories high and sport more glass, according to architectural drawings presented by Lightstone.
Since the two lost have been spot rezoned as mixed use, the ground floors on Bond Street will have some commercial use.

I hope a nail place and bank open on the ground floor. I can get some organic gluten-free vegan Pad Thai from Whole Foods and eat them while I get a pedicure.

oh the snark. it never ends. : )

of course, if we supported all of the business that we are loathe to lose to "progress," then maybe we could keep them, you know, in business.

When the real estate is worth 10 times the value of the business there is no amount of "support" that would sense financially to keep the business open

I drive by this nightmare the other day. I still can't believe this is happening to my neighborhood.
