The small retail space at 244 Smith Street that was home to Video Free Brooklyn until just a few months ago, will become a bar.  Over the past few weeks, a crew has been busy fixing the interior and
giving the storefront a facelift.
Word has it that the owners of the French-Mexican bistro Jolie Cantina, which is located across the street at 241 Smith Street, are behind this new venture.
According to one of the construction workers at 244 Smith Street, the new bar will eventually expand into the neighboring space currently occupied by Brooklyn Bead Box, which apparently is moving out of the corner storefront later this year.  (The two retail stores are located in the same building and already share the same street address.)
What do you think?  Sad at the potential loss of the Bead Box or happy to gain a new bar in the neighborhood?

and there's another bar opening up across the street, also run by folks from a nearby french restaurant. they're moving into the space once occupied by an indian restaurant but, most recently, was more infamously known as a house of prostitution.

voila, suddenly there is more life on smith street!

"Word has it..."
Isn't that code for "I don't really know, so I'll just use guesswork and unsubstantiated rumor."?

Another bar? Phew! I was afraid it would be something the neighborhood actually needed.

If the neighborhood supported other types of businesses then they would survive.
But it seems Bars are all we support, so what should we expect! A shoe-store?
A replacement for Marrietta's? A place to buy pajamas?
NO - we'll get what we deserve: Bars & Coffee Bars.
