It's all about the sky, isn't it?
As higher buildings are starting to encroach on our little neighborhood, I am becoming more aware of how special it is to catch a glimpse of the clouds passing overhead and the sun slowly fading behind a row of brownstones.

What a striking photo. I think about the sky, too, and how it’s being blotted out
more and more by the ugly new constructions, especially around BAM.
That lovely old landmark used to be the standout building in the triangle of Flatbush and
Lafayette, now, from Flatbush, it’s partly hidden behind some the ugliest new buildings ever.
I moved to Brooklyn in 1975 and was an admirer of Pete Hamill,
the writer, and editor (for awhile) of the Daily News. I read his autobiography about
growing up in the old Irish neighborhood of what is now Windsor Terrace. The
opening line was about how he loved the Brooklyn SKY and how that was one of what was special about living
in Brooklyn: seeing it. I thought about that every time I came home from working in Manhattan.
Thank you for that photo!
