Yet, other stores and eateries that have been serving Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill for a long time are still going strong. Hopefully, they will continue to do so in 2019 and beyond.
What would this neighborhood be without our family-owned businesses like Staubitz, Monteleone's, Caputo's, Esposito's, Los Paisanos, Court Street Pastry's and Sam's, to name just a few.
So let us pledge to support them and to thank them for making this neighborhood vibrant and special.
Which old-time family-owned business in the neighborhood is your favorite?

Please don't ask me to choose. I love a dozen of them.
Fair enough. I’ll allow it. Haha
Martinez Grocery (bodega) on Court at President. Nelson & Maritza and their family are wonderful people.
Family-owned and operated Sal’s Pizzeria has been in the neighborhood since the ‘50s, at that location for decades, and sells a pretty great classic NY slice.
What gorgeous photos of those old, reliable Court & Smith Street businesses
showing the elegance of old decor that they’ve maintained.
Thanks for focusing on them while we mourn the loss of the places
you also noted.
I bought as many gifts as I could from neighborhood shops, mainly from
Swallow and Books Are Magic, and a cake from that amazing MIA bakery.
But some of the other new places seem to mainly offer
kitsch from China with the bridge or BKLYN emblazoned on the front.
Who dreamed when we first moved here that we’d become a tourist
destination?
So nice to see Lana's on here! I love Lana and the haircuts she gives me.
Lana is the best.
