Mama Capri has also created a simple kids menu, which probably will attract many neighborhood families.
From the restaurant's web site:
"Our philosophy is to cook from the heart. We make food that we love, for people to share with those they love. We value quality and authenticity above all.
We believe great food is born from fresh and natural ingredients, and therefore insist on using the finest produce available - we do not do shortcuts.
Whether it's our daily specials and fresh pasta, a tasting menu that begins with prosciutto and cheese directly from Italy or our carefully selected wine list imported directly from wineries around the world - our team at Mama Capri is confident you will enjoy our menu."
Have you stopped by Mama Capri yet? If so, did you enjoy your meal? What were the best dishes?

Cute spot! Planning a visit soon for dinner! New restaurants are always great and welcomed, but it's almost routine for them to come and go these days. Hopefully the food is incredible and they have staying power, but Smith street is scary for any new restaurants or bars. Blame the rents and residents, it's unfortunately a bad time. Would love to know what type of cuisine would you like to see pop up?!
I would appreciate a simple rotating menu at reasonable prices. Problem with most new places is that they never change things up, so after two or three visits, there is nothing new to try.
Also would appreciate a house wine by the glass at a fair price.
as it regards italian in our neighborhood as well as venues which offer a house wine by the glass at a fair price, i think fragole is often unfairly overlooked. granted, their menu rarely changes and the food is also more comfort-level quality rather than spectacular, but there are certain dishes which are consistently satisfying, such as the penne all'arrabbiata and their bucatini alle vongole... and they offer house wine by the glass - they’re almost notorious for it (because of recent issues with getting their licenses in order).
besides, for a glass of wine at a decent price, there’s always the big tiny on smith. grab a seat at the bar during the midweek for a moment of genuine calm and pleasure.
a semi-new asian place opened on Smith Street that just seems to be a generic mix of chinese, korean, thai, japanese (sushi)...I don't need to even bother going in to know it's just generic food with zero staying power. These are the worst asian places. A Mr. Beet is opening on Smith Street too. Fingers crossed this is something unique and not another bodega/deli. My FAVORITE restaurant in the area is Slowteria. have you been?
Slowteria is DELICIOUS! My favorite too.
I agree! Fragole and Big Tiny are great restaurants, both with friendly amazing staff. I hope they never go away! Does anyone know what will be replacing recently closed Milk Bar on 2nd street? What would you like to see occupy this space? - E
Stopped into Mr. Beet and spoke to a worker putting up wooden shelving. I thought that might mean a store of some sort as opposed to a restaurant. He said they will sell fruits, vegetables, juices, beer. That indicates a food mart to me. Here's hoping 1) that prices are not Union Market high; 2) that the quality of products is good; 3) that they're open into the evening so I can grab some garlic on my way home from the subway; and 4) that they will stay.
Perhaps they will even inspire Mystery Pizza next door to finally open? I'll believe it when I see it.
"Mystery Pizza" -- this is the biggest mystery to me for the past couple years. Someone needs to get inside and see what's going on! I feel something shady is definitely happening behind those closed doors and covered up windows. Anybody know anything? - E
