That's Anthony from the florist on Court near Carroll, officially called the Carroll Gardens Florist Corporation ... I stopped to chat with him, as I often do, he is real Carroll Gardens, as real as it gets. The florist has existed in one form or other for over 100 years. Anthony served his country with the Marines in Vietnam 1962-66 (if I recall from his stories) and can usually be seen when the whether is nice outside his shoppe, getting some sun, and blasting bebop, big band music, and 1940s and 1950s pop (he was listening to Johnny Maestro last Saturday and was keen to point out that his group the Crests were one of the firs interracial groups in the country - you might remember him singing "Sixteen Candles"). Lately, tho, he said he is keeping the music down because "yuppies" have been complaining - "the new people in the neighborhood" - and that they also complain when he displays American flags, which he finds very disrespectful. He took a big hit being closed for Mother's Day and Easter, while bodegas that sell flowers were open.

Thank you for this, Mike. I have enjoyed Anthony and his music for the past 34 years. can‘t imagine anyone complaining, but yes...Carroll Gardens is changing.
