Nothing tastes as good as Caputo's bread, especially when it just came out of the oven.

Caputo Bakery Getting Ready For Easter

Steve W. came across a woman painting the window of Caputo's Bakery on Court Street.
"I have been waiting so long to catch that in the act," he writes.

Thanks for sharing with everyone, Steve!

A Moment Back In Time: Coke Delivery On Court And Sackett Streets In The Late 1920's

Court :Sackett 1950's Coke delivery

A nostalgic look back into Carroll Gardens' past. This moment back in time shows a Coca-Cola truck making a delivery at the corner of Sackett and Court Streets in the late 1920's. Back then, there was a deli/ news stand where there now is the Red Apple Chinese restaurant. And next door, where Caputo's Bakery is now housed, there was a barber shop.
Unfortunately, the beautiful row of brownstones on that block has been significantly altered long ago by the 'newer' and much lower white and blue Caputo's building.
Does anyone know what happened to the original building? I know the bakery has been at that location for a very long time. I'd love to find out.

Below is a photo of the same row today. Much less romantic, I think.

Photo Of The Day: Fresh Steaming Bread

IMG_2063

The bread must have just come out of the oven

at Caputo's on Court Street,
because it was steaming up the windows
and its deliciousness was
beckoning me inside.

A Walk In The Rain On Court Street

IMG_1049

Though the steadier rain had given way to light drizzle by then,

everyone on Court Street was in a hurry to get home.

Yellow leaves, which had clung to branches just days before,

now matted the sidewalk.

But the grayness and dampness were forgotten
as soon as I entered Caputo's Bakery.

"I'll take two, please"

I heard myself say.

What did you do to chase away the blues on this rainy day, dear reader?

Local Butcher, Baker And Restaurateur Interviewed By CNN On Costumer Confidence

CNN reporter Maggie Lake interviewed three local Brooklyn business owners to find out if consumers are more confident about spending money now compared to last spring. Two of the owners are very familiar to this neighborhood: James Caputo of Caputo Bakery and John McFadden, Jr. of Staubitz, both from Court Street.

And the verdict? People are beginning to open their purse strings just a bit more.

Picture Of The Day: Freshly Baked

I dare you, dear Reader,
to walk past Caputo Bakery's store window
without wanting
to enter
to buy a loaf.
The smell of the freshly
baked bread
is just too good
to ignore.
