Italian Trattoria 'Broccolino NY' To Replace Hunter's On Smith Street

Untitled

Many in the neighborhood may have realized that Hunter's at 213 Smith Street closed its doors during the summer. The popular restaurant and bar offered a nice seasonal American menu and served great drinks in a casual atmosphere. The week-end brunch in particular made this a favorite spot in the neighborhood.

Its replacement, Brocccolino NY, will open in the storefront vacated by Hunter's soon, according to signs in the window. The eatery will be a "contemporary trattoria serving Italian eats such as homemade pasta, pizza and  kale caesar salad."
Broccolino will be an outpost of a restaurant by the same name located on Dean Street between 5th Avenue and Flatbush Avenue.

Don't know about you, but I already miss Hunter's.  How about you?
Does anyone remember Athena, the greek restaurant that operated at this spot before Hunter's?

With all the changes happening on Smith Street, it is nice to know that some eateries are still going strong.  Hunter's, the seasonal American restaurant and bar, which has been serving great drinks and fantastic food at 213 Smith Street since they opened in late 2012,  continues to re-invent its menu, making it one of the neighborhood's best casual dining option.
This coming Thursday, Hunter's will be offering a special summer tasting, and help shape the eatery's next menu.
Here is more information:
Hey friends,

As we have every year since we've opened, we're ushering in the Summer by offering a tasting menu curated by Chef Angelo and welcoming conversations about the varied tastes of our guests and of Summer.

In the past we've done it over a couple of weeks and now, to make it more of a party atmosphere we're concentrating on one very special night this coming week.

To that end, we invite you to RSVP and come in next Thursday (June 18th) to try some different menu possibilities for the coming season and stay for a cocktail hour where our staff and kitchen can listen to some feedback and help get you a little drunk on champagne and power.

The cost is $50 per person, which includes 4 courses and a cocktail hour.
We will start dinner services between 7pm and 8:30 and will party thru midnight for those interested in what the night has to offer.

Thanks so much for all the help and support you continue to give us, please let us know as soon as you can as space is limited for dinner.

Fer, Angelo, and the staff at Hunter's.

You can RSVP via email to Fer@huntersbrooklyn.com or by calling the restaurant at 718 246 2221.

Soccer And A Drink: Special 'World Cup of Cocktails' at Hunter's

Many establishments in the neighborhood are hosting events for World Cup 2014, but Hunter's on Smith Street has just convinced me that it is the place to be to watch all the matches.  Along with the football action, Hunter's will be holding a World Cup Cocktail competition from June 12th to July 13th, that sounds even more fun than the games themselves.
Here is more info:
Hunter's at 213 Smith Street in Cobble Hill has transformed the World Cup into a cocktail competition among the best countries and players of the tournament. Taste the Cosmaldo, Dempsey's Texan Wildfire, or Rooney's Grumpy Scrumpy while taking in the games at the bar. Cocktails are eliminated as the teams go down, and are available only on group game day.
Check out the promotions and the groups at: www.huntersbrooklyn.com/worldcup2014

There will be free Peroni when Italy scores,  free Quilmes  when Argentina scores and free Tecate when Mexico scores.  Hey, Hunter! How about when Germany scores?
In any case, you will know where to find me on game days.

Come Celebrate Hunter's First Anniversary On Smith Street This Coming Thursday, November 21st

Who doesn't like a good celebration, especially if it involves free champagne? Hunter's, the seasonal American restaurant and bar at 213 Smith Street is throwing a party to celebrate its one year anniversary. Sounds like great fun.  Read the details below and don't forget to RSVP.
Having been to our fair share of one-year-old birthday parties in the past couple of years we are proud to say that we will be far more conscious and complicit than the average 1 year old when you come celebrate with us on Thursday, November 21st. We can't promise we'll be as enthusiastic about our balloon decorations and superhero piƱatas, but we will definitely compensate by drinking many cocktails with those who made our first year possible.
365 days of pure unadulterated joy celebrated in an evening of debauchery! Free champagne for all on Thursday, November 21st from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Take a yearlong trip down cocktail menu memory lane tasting the four different seasons of Hunter's boozing or just enjoy the same Ernest Hemingway champagne cocktail that launched Hunter's Friends and Family night one year ago for only $5 all night. Special treats from chefs Angelo and Josh, a celebratory cake baked by special guest pastry chef Eryn and, of course, surprises. Come for dinner, enjoy the cocktail specials, cake and surprises. Or just come for a champagne toast with us at the bar.
Please RSVP as soon as possible by calling us at 718.246.2221 and be prepared to celebrate into the night with us! We may be drinking at the end, we may deserve it.

If you haven't yet checked out Hunter's on Smith Street in Boerum Hill,  you should definitely stop by the next time you are looking for a casual place to dine.
The seasonal American restaurant and bar opened late last year, but in just a few short months, Hunter's has become a favorite spot in the neighborhood and has found its place amidst Smith Street's culinary scene.
Co-owners Fernando Camberos and Angelo Schifilliti, two childhood friends, and their partner Michael Nee have transformed the space that was previously occupied by a Greek restaurant into a cosy 'lodge', complete with framed wildlife prints. The theme extends to the bar, which offers cocktails named "The Smoking Gun" and "Wile E. Coyote" and "Handsome Hound". (The restaurant's muse is Schifilliti's beagle, Hunter.)

The menu is created by Schifilliti, the former Executive Chef at Landmarc Tribeca and Nee. Many of the ingredients are sourced locally. The cheese, for example, comes from Stinky's next door.
Some of the must-haves are the Grilled Kale, served with roasted squash, puffed chickpeas and egg.  Also try the fresh house-made pastas.  The Papardelle is served with boar ragu and wild mushroom. And according to Peter Shelsky of Shelsky's,  the Bourbon mustard served with some of the appetizers is simply amazing.
Pair your meal with wines from the Finger Lakes or with one of the many local craft beers on the drink menu.

Hunter's is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday through Sunday. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays.

And if you need a coffee fix, Hunter's now serves Blue Bottle 'pour over' coffee that you can order to go.  (One word: amazing!)

Hunter's is really a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. Stop by and try it soon.
