A Very Old Street Sign

oo

Spied on Court Street...
a Court Street
Street Sign
attached to a brick wall.
It looks as though it has been there for an awfully long time.

Although I cannot tell from the photo, this is likely an old corner building. In about 1901, a series of local laws were passed requiring property owners to affix such metal signs to corner buildings only. The signs were mandatory and had to be cobalt blue background with white lettering. When one sees surviving signs of this type, they can be sure that the structure dates to a least 1900-1901 era.

Well, thank you for the history lesson. I love these signs. There are just a few left along Court Street, but every time I see one, I take a photo.
