SUMMERTIME AND THE READING IS EASY:
Summer Reading Program in Carroll Gardens Library Kicks Off On June 9
There is no place like our public libraries. Thank goodness we have a wonderful one right here in our neighborhood. And now, thanks to the newly formed Friends Of The Carroll Gardens Library group, there are lots of great events in store for the next few months. Here is an announcement for a new reading program from the Friends:
The lazy, crazy days of summer are also perfect for reading a new book – or two. Join us at the Carroll Gardens Library on Anniversary Day, June 9 from 2pm to 4pm for the Summer Reading Kick-Off Party.
All ages are welcome. Enjoy a multicultural celebration with free activities and treats to celebrate the start of the Library's annual Summer Reading program!
About the program: The Summer Reading program and its new interactive website is a great way to connect with others who like to read, while reading at your own pace. Fun activities are happening all summer long, and folks of all ages in New York City can sign up. For kids and teens, there are fun activities at the library -- such as games, live performances and Summer Reading parties. Meanwhile, adults can enjoy great librarian picks from a recommended booklist as well as attending book discussions. The benefits are many: studies show that children and teens who read during the summer are better prepared for school in the fall. Also, reading for recreation results in significant gains in vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
The Carroll Gardens Library is at 396 Clinton Street, at the corner of Union Street. Keep up with the Friends of Carroll Gardens Library at our blog site at http://friendsofcglibrary.blogspot.com/
