Carroll Gardens Branch Of The Brooklyn Public Library To Close From February To Mid-March For Maintenance

The Carroll Gardens Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, located at 396 Clinton Street, will be closing for building maintenance starting on February 1st, 2020. According to its web site, the branch is scheduled to re-open in mid-March, 2020.

BPL will make a Bookmobile available during that period on Mondays and Fridays from 11am to 4 pm, starting Monday, February 3rd.

Book Sale And Puppet Show:Upcoming Happenings At Carroll Gardens Library

Friends of the Carroll Gardens Library will be hosting its annual big book sale at our local branch at 396 Clinton Street this Saturday, Dec. 7th from 10 - 4 pm. 

There will be lots of books for kids and adults as well as raffles courtesy of Pizzazz Kids and Books are Magic!
Come early, bring your friends and support your local library.

Also upcoming on December 12, 2019, 4:00PM in Carroll Gardens Library's auditorium,

a puppetry event as a celebration of West African and Caribbean folktales. 

"Performers from Puppetry In Practice (PiP) will be presenting Anansi the Spider a West African Folktale. PiP uses the creative arts to enhance literacy, spark curiosity and imagination, and engage in cultural immersions in the countries of origin that make our city great."

All ages welcome.
The library is located on the corner of Clinton and Union Streets in Carroll Gardens.

An announcement for the event states:

"The tables will be overflowing with fiction, nonfiction, children's books this Saturday 10-4, please return to the Library then and bring your neighbors, friends and family. Pizzazzz Toys has contributed Playmobil sets for a raffle. All funds are used to support activities, supplies and equipment for the Library. Have you seen the new telescope in action on Wednesday nights in front of the library? Do come to support this historic and vital resource in our community and join the Friends of the Library group."

Henry And Jay's Collection Agency Presents "Down the Street –A Show Of Collections On Jean-Michel Basquiat" At The Carroll Gardens Library

If you find yourself at the Carroll Gardens Library at 396 Clinton Street from now to the end of March, make sure to stop in the vestibule to take a look at the display case featuring the mini-intsallation "Down the Street – A Show of collections about/on Jean-Michel Basquiat."

The installation is presented by Henry and Jay's Collection Agency. It features collectables and memorabilia of the Brooklyn-born artist that includes exhibition fliers, ticket stubs, postcards and invitations. It also includes "Pezographs", Pez dispensers autographed by those close to Basquiat like artist Donald Baechler, a contemporary of Basquiat, art dealer Jeffrey Deitch, photographer Michael Halsband, who took the iconic photo of Basquiat in boxlng gloves, writer Glenn O'Brian, as well as two of Basquiat's sisters Lisane and Jeanine.

Henry and Jay's Collection Agency was spearheaded by PS58 student Henry and his father Jason McLean, a Canadian artist, who moved his family to Carroll Gardens three years ago. Their Brooklyn Pez Museum is an offshoot of The Felix and Henry’s Canadian Pez Museum. Together, father and sons have collected over 500 autographed Pez dispensers that have been signed by celebrities like Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, Tom Petty, Grandmaster Flash, John Waters, Larry David, and many more.

The Basquiat display is an homage to the artist, who lived in Boerum Hill for a brief time in the 1970s, relatively close to the Carroll Gardens Library.

This Saturday, Head On Over To the Carroll Gardens Library for A Giant Book Sale

This Saturday, May 20th,  please show some love for our very own Carroll Gardens Library.  Friends of the Carroll Gardens Library, a group of volunteers who have dedicate themselves to making our 
local branch of the Brooklyn Public Library on Clinton Street even better, have organized a huge book and bake sale/fundraising event.
On sale will be a fantastic selection of books from fiction to art and everything in between. There will also be tons of children's books.
Additionally, the Friends group is holding a bake sale plus a raffle with gifts for both kids and adults. Plus an acoustic-guitar duo will be entertaining!
The event coincides with the Brooklyn Library's great Bike the Branches Day.   So, hop on your bike and head on over to our neighborhood branch.

El Dia De Los Niños Celebration At Carroll Gardens Library Will Feature 'Bilingual Birdies Band'

On Friday April 28th at 3:30pm, the Carroll Gardens branch of the Brooklyn Public Library will feature  a concert by the Bilingual Birdies Band for El Dia De Los Niños. This event is sponsored by Apple Bank for Savings as part of their borough-wide support for the World Family Language Series with the BPL.

Here is more information on the event:
Bilingual Birdies Band will be performing an interactive concert to celebrate El Dia De Los Niños. Children and parents will learn Spanish and French through music, movement, puppetry and games. The program will be presented in English, French and Spanish.

The World Language Family Series is provided through the generous support of Apple Bank, celebrating over 20 years in Brooklyn and over 150 years of neighborhood banking in greater New York. Additional support for multi-lingual First Five Years programs provided by the Altman Foundation.

You might also mark April 19th on your calendar for the last BloomAgainBklyn Creative Aging Flower Workshop with the BPL at Carroll Gardens Library. It starts at 1:00 pm.

Friends of the Carroll Gardens Library will be hosting a large Book Sale at our local branch at 396 Clinton Street on December 10, 2016 from 11am to 4 pm. Book donations are currently being accepted at the reception desk during regular library hours. (see here)

On the same day, the group also plans on unveiling a large painting that was created at the library by children with New York-based artist Maria de Los Angeles.

Free Tango Lessons At Carroll Gardens Library This Fall

IATI Theatre will be hosting free tango lessons at the Carroll Gardens branch of the Brooklyn Public Library on Tuesday evenings beginning on October 4th till December 13th.  So mark your calendar and come out to dance.

Friends of the Carroll Gardens Library, the volunteer group that supports our local library branch by fundraising to make it the center of the community is currently accepting donations of books in preparation for a big book sale Saturday May 7, 2016 11am to 4pm at the Library, which is located at 396 Clinton Street.
According to the Friends group:
"There is also the opportunity to donate baked goods for the bake sale and to work organizing and selling books. Bike the Branches is also scheduled May 7th so this is great time to celebrate and support our treasured neighborhood library. Donations will be taken until the end of April."

Please Help Bring Ballroom Dancing Class To The Carroll Gardens Library

The Carroll Gardens Library has applied for funding for an 8-week ballroom dancing program led by a professional instructor. The program is meant to "support the social and recreational interests of older adults, many of whom have expressed their specific interest in a ballroom dancing program."

In order to make this branch led-community program a reality, the Carroll Gardens library is competing with other Brooklyn branches for BKLYN INCUBATOR funding.
