Gastropub 'Strong Place' Quietly Closes On Court Street

I am sure some of you already noticed that Strong Place, the pub and raw bar at 270 Court Street in Cobble Hill closed its doors recently.  I must admit that the closing escaped me, so that I was a bit taken aback when I walked by earlier this week to find the establishment totally cleared out.
Strong Place, which shared the space with juice bar Nectar,  opened at this location in 2009, so it did have a relatively long run. I am sure it will be missed by many in the neighborhood.
Strangely, neither Strong Place's web site nor its Facebook page mentions that the establishment is no longer in operation. Yelp, however, reports that it is now closed.

Who remembers Shakespeare's Sister, which occupied this storefront for almost 15 years prior to the pub? It was a café and gift store that sold lovely items like jewelry, paper goods and natural beauty products.

What kind of business would you like to see open in this space?

Benefit For Immigrant Families @ Strong Place This Wednesday

Untitled
Reader Jennifer made me aware of a fund raising event for the National Immigration Law Center this Wednesday, March 22 from 7 to 9 pm.  The event will be held here in the neighborhood at Strong Place, 270 Court Street.

Jennifer writes:
"The National Immigration Law Center is a leading organization that is fearlessly defending the rights of immigrant families.
A $50 (minimum) donation at the door ($25 for under 25 year-olds) will help to ensure that they are able to continue defending and advancing the rights of low-income immigrant families, as well as continuing the fight against Trump’s xenophobic Muslim banned the rising arrests by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Space Once Occupied By Shakespeare's Sister Sees Some Action

By far, one of the loveliest storefronts on Court Street in the Cobble Hill area is #270, the space once occupied by Shakespeare's Sister. For more than 14 years, the gift store/ café was one of my favorites in the neighborhood. It offered quite unique jewelery, paper goods and cool beauty products. It also featured the work of many local artists.

Way before Starbucks invaded the neighborhood, Shakespeare's Sister was the place to go after a film at the Cobble Hill Cinema, since it was just across the street. Back then, nothing else was open after 11 pm.
When the store closed in June 2008, the owners of Shakespeare's Sister hung the sign in their window:

The storefront sat empty ever since, but just in the last few weeks, there has been some action.
The entire store has been gutted, revealing a huge, sunny space. What exactly will take Shakespeare's place is not yet know.
I only hope that the new place will be as respectful to the neighborhood as Shakespeare's Sister was.
