Great News! Seeds Of Love Coffee Shop On Court Street Reopens In Same Space as Psychedelicatessen Sandwich Shop

When Seeds of Love, the tiny coffee and pastry shop at 421 Court Street closed in mid-March after serving the Carroll Gardens community for over seven years, many local residents were surprised and saddened. After all, SoL had been one of the few local businesses who had consistently stayed open throughout the 2020 pandemic and represented a bright spot on Court Street during the confinement.

Well, we have good news! After a two months hiatus and a total renovation of the small commercial space, owner Phillip Ellis is back. This time, however, he will be concentrating more on sandwiches and 'salty foods' rather than sweet pastry.

The new venture is called Psychedelicatessen Sandwich Shop and opened its doors this past week-end.
Stop on by and say hi to Phillip and his staff, and treat yourself to one of his amazing sandwich or salad creations. (See menu below).

Welcome back, Phil!

It is so tiny that you may have missed it while walking by, but Seeds Of Love,  a new coffee place just opened its doors at 421 Court Street between 2nd and 3rd Place in Carroll Gardens.
In addition to espresso, macchiato, latte, cappuccino and teas, Seeds of Love offers pastries and sandwiches as well as daily tourtes and a midday desert.
Owner Phillip Ellis, a corporate chef who lives in the neighborhood,  told me that he borrowed the name for his new business from the title of a  Tears For Fears song.  He also explains that it refers to the fact that coffee is actually a seed and not a bean.
The tiny storefront at 421 Court Street has been home to quite a few different businesses over the past few decades.  Ellis explains that numbers were once run out of the former carriage house.  Later, it became a candy store.  More recently, it was a clothing boutique.
Seeds of Love is standing room only, but there is a small counter close to the front window for those who want to linger.   Currently, the place is open from 7:30 am to 6 pm.  Ellis may move the opening time to 7 am if and earlier time accommodates his customers.
Seeds of Love will most likely become a favorite neighborhood stop for a quick jolt of caffeine and a bite to eat.  So leave the house a bit earlier next time and stop by to grab one of their coffees.

Newest Boutique On Court Street: 'Mona-Lea'

A small women's clothing store is settling into the tiny space occupied until very recently by Serimony at 421 Court Street, between 2nd and 3rd Place. A sign on the door indicates it's name will be 'Mona-Lea Botique.'
Misspelling the word 'boutique' on one's store sign isn't the best beginning, but lets hope they catch the mistake before they order a new awning for the store.

Update: The word 'boutique' is spelled correctly on the store's new awning. See below.

I just noticed with regret that Serimony, the small boutique at 421 Court Street, recently closed. The store carried a nice collection of hand-crafted gifts, greeting cards, jewelry and tees. A sign in the window reads :
"Dear Customers, It has truly been a pleasure being part of your neighborhood and getting to know all of you. After 5 1/2 years, we are closing our doors. As some doors close, others open though. Our designs will continue to be available online. Please continue to visit us at www.seremony.com and seremony.etsy.com. We thank you and wish you a Happy New Year!"
I am sorry to see them go, but glad that their wares will still be available online.
